Stargate Reviews

Daniel in a bandana! Snarky McKay! Woo-hoo!!

First up, SG-1:

I have to say, Tom Cruise really gave a wonderful performance and Ken Watanabe was just amazing. He really got jipped on the Oscar. Oh, wait. This isn't The Last Samurai. But, it is. I'm so confused! Ahhhh!! I know SG-1 (and every TV show) steals ideas from movies and other shows. It's common knowledge that Stargate is among one of the most common perpetrators. PDL has admitted it on numerous occassions. But this wasn't just scavanging a few camera moves, or characters. This was the whole plot. I was seriously expecting to see Billy Connolly ride by on horseback at any moment. But, given all that, the whole Sodan plot is very intriguing. The whole notion of truly "free" Jaffa is intriguing. And how will they fit in with the new Jaffa Nation and state of the galaxy? Lord Haikon could prove to be an interesting antagonist to Teal'c and Gerak. While I was disappointed (and slightly bored) with this episode, I think it did set up some good story lines for later in the season. But the mid-season finale is next week already?!?! Nooooo!!!!!!!!! *pouts*

And now Atlantis:

OK. First, just let me say that bugs are creepy. But, night vision goggles are always cool. :-) So, with that out of the way, Wow. Was this just a tour de force for Joe. I like how the producers aren't afraid to put the main characters in jeopardy. Atlantis has always done this better than SG-1, I think. That's probably because they've pretty much been doing that straight out of the gate (haha) whereas we didn't really get it with SG-1 until Heroes and Janet's death. Sure, Daniel "died" but he always came back, so we don't really have the same level of peril that we've had with Atlantis. But we know that by the end of the episode John will be OK because it's still TV. I did like the two little scenes with John's team sitting around worrying about him. That was touching. But I thought the whole bug-thing was for more than one episode? Huh. Oh, well.

So, that's that. See ya!
