In the box where it asks "what are you doing?" you just @erinanderson I am snoring right now. It will send the message straight to the person and they'll get a notice saying that they have an @ message. I think that's what you're asking..

I have been wondering this same thing, and learned a lot from your comments. I never even noticed a "reply arrow" next to someone's name. I need something big, like the word "REPLY" on a giant button or something. heh

On the main page, if you hover over someone's tweet, you'll see the little arrow pop up on the side. It took me a minute to find it, too. :-)
