Why Ianto's death was ultimately pointless and stupid in an article here comparing his death to that of Tara on Buffy. The writer says everything that I felt was wrong way better than I could ever hope to.
I stopped watching Buffy after season 5. Buffy was just way too annoying for me to deal with anymore, so I didn't really get to know Tara that well. The important part though is how the characters were dealt with. Annoying as she may have been, she got a proper send-off and her death actually had a point. Whereas Ianto's did not.
er, spoilers! I haven't watched it yet and had managed to not get spoiled :-( Ah well, I figured based on the outcry someone had died (which kinda meant Gwen or Ianto :p ). No more pretty boy Ianto - I did enjoy drooling over him.
I have been meaning to respond to your comment to me on switch's journal (I think we should just friend each other lol) I just wanted to say I mildly agree. I was a HUGE Oz/Willow shipper and while I will always wave my gay friendly flag loud and proud I always felt Joss made Willow and Tara gay because what show doesn't have a gay person on it? He figured they needed one too. There was no reason for Willow to be made gay. I liked Tara and accepted her but ultimately I wanted my Oz back. :)
Definitely says it better than I could have. I read some of the other articles too and they said some things I agreed with. I feel smug about the poll on there, asking fans if they'd watch season 4. 53% said "Not without Ianto". Take that RTD.
And can you believe he told fans who were upset about Ianto's death to "go watch Supernatural"? Way to keep fans of both shows, idiot.
I know! You want me to watch Supernatural? OK. I will. Take that! And you know what? That show is 100 times better than anything Torchwood will ever be. And implying that we're all upset that Ianto died merely because GDL is pretty? Oh, fuck no. He's such a bastard. I thought Joe Mallozzi was horrible. RTD is way worse.
