switch842: (SPN: Dean Hear/See/Speak No)

I thought the situation presented to us, was completely plausible. Given the state of the world, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Some town going all militia.

Michael!! Oh, it was nice having him back on TV. But I thought he was supposed to be the preacher? *is confused* Anyway. He played his part very well. Though I wish we could have had more of him.

I was a little wary of her being a prophet. I was kind of like "Really? Another one? Hmm..." So, she had my hackles up from the beginning, but I wasn't entirely sure why. And she turns out to be the Whore of Babylon? OK...

(I will admit that I missed a chunk in the middle due to Gabriel. I don't think I missed any of the key points, but there may be further comments after I rewatch. I think I saw some drunk!Cas? LOL)

I LOVE that Dean killed her. As loathe as he is to admit it, he is a servant of heaven. I swore an oath to God at the end of season 4. So, yeah. Plus being Michael's vessel (which I'll get to that below), there's some connection to heaven there.

I will admit I had a little problem at the end. Not with the fact that Dean has that desire to be part of a normal family, but more that it was with Lisa. From what I remember, it was a fling that lasted a couple days, maybe a week. I've always thought that if he was to go back to anyone, it would be to Cassie. They at least had a couple months and he trusted her enough to tell her the truth about who he was and what he did. So, yeah...

Now, moving on to Dean and what we all believe is going to happen next week - He's going to say yes to Michael. After thinking over night about this, I think I don't have as big a problem with that as I thought I might. Here's why:

Hell completely broke Dean. And he's never recovered from it. Sure, he's put on a good show, but living with the knowledge of what he did breaks him more every day. At the core of himself, I believe Dean has always thought himself to be a good guy. He saves people, kills the bad, evil thing. And he's good at it. There's not much that Dean has been good at. School was never really his thing, relationships never really worked out. But he could kill the bad guy and get the innocent back home safe. Knowing that he harmed "innocent" people in hell? Come on. That's just gotta be killing him.

And he's been trying to redeem himself ever since he got back. Going on job after job, trying to get rid of as many of those evil sons of bitches that he can. And then learning that HE has to be the one to stop everything. That he is the only one who can? That's just too much. He can't do it any more. Everyone is asking too much of him. So, he's going to do whatever he can to stop it. And right now, the only way out he sees is saying Yes. He's tried to do it himself, but it's not working.

And that's that.

Yeah, to me, this we could've done without this scene entirely because I don't really think we needed to personalize Dean's love for humanity like that. In my mind, the only reason he "sees himself happy" with Lisa is because of Ben and precisely because it was a fling - it's only a fantasy, one that is so far removed from his life, one with no real complications or issues to it. Cassie, because it was more, is pain and reality, not fantasy. (Or, at least, this is how I am justifying that scene in my head.)

And I'm okay with Dean thinking he has to say "yes." They really have run out of options and Dean has always solved the unsolvable through self-sacrifice. THIS IS HIS GO-TO OPTION. Whenever it comes down to brass tacks, he always thinks someone (or here, everyone) else is more important than him. For a long time, he has hung on to having to stay around for Sam, but last week's episode was basically a sign post for him that Sam is happier without him. So what does he have to stay around for? (Other than Cas, that is, LOL.)

I'm not sure I'm okay with Dean actually saying yes because I don't actually think that'll fix anything, but I'm okay with Dean thinking it's his only way.

Your cut text pretty much sums it up, huh?

YES YES YES. I mean, even going back like pre-series. Sam didn't have a mom or dad? Dean did it, sacrificing his own wants to be a child. Sam died? Dean took his place. It's his MO.

Poor Dean. He's finally been pushed too far and he's in that corner. And the only way he can think to stop it and actually help is to give in.
Depressing.

It was great seeing Michael back, and I wish he'd had a bigger part... though I'm glad that he didn't end up dying!

Totally didn't trust that girl from the beginning. Just something about her...

I really think he's going to say yes to Michael too. Everything that's led up to this point just seems to set the stage for it. I have to wonder if Sam is going to say yes to Lucifer now? And if so, will one end up killing the other (and where does that bring us when season 6 starts? 'Cause we totally can't have the show without the two boys). Okay, so I'm thinking WAY too far ahead here, lol

I don't think Sam is going to say yes. At least not now. Maybe like the season finale & then season 6 will be about that conflict. Maybe?
