I guess I'm a dance snob
Jul. 11th, 2012 09:08 pmWatching these first few weeks of So You Think You Can Dance has taught me one thing: I don't give a shit about modern/contemporary dance. I guess I'm like Erik from Center Stage: "I do ballet because it has nothing to do with the people. Give me tiaras and boys in tights any day."
I didn't think I was this snobbish about it, but it would seem I am. Or maybe I'm just in a bad mood cos work was pretty awful and then Martouf was being a two year old so, you know, that was fun....
Out of all the numbers I only really liked two: the one with Amelia with the dumpster and they were cats; and the Broadway one with Cyrus. On the topic of Cyrus, I gotta admit he didn't really do too terribly. I think he managed to get a good style this week. Broadway, I think, is a fairly easy transition for him into learning choreography. But even in the opening number, he was holding his own pretty well. I still don't think he'll last terribly long, just because, technically, he doesn't have what he needs: flexibility, technique, etc. But, like Nigel said, he is a phenomenal performer. I hope he's able to really do something with the exposure this is giving him.
