With the awful, nasty updates LJ has done, I've created a Dreamwidth account just in case. Same username: switch842. It's just gonna sit there empty for now while I wait to see if LJ undoes this asshattery.

If you have a DW account, feel free to add me and let me know who you are over there.

Boo, LJ. Boo.

*waves*

this is my Dreamwidth main account: http://kj-svala.dreamwidth.org/

seems you`re not the only one with a new DW account. This is what the DW staff posted:

"Dreamwidth is seeing some extra traffic today, so we're rolling out a new webserver to handle the extra load"

tehe

(btw, I love your layout & header, it`s shiny)

Gotcha! The only thing that would kind of suck about moving over would be having to hand move all the fics from my fic comm. Blech. Oh, well. I'll give LJ some time to get things fixed and see what happens.

Thanks! I like this layout, too. I hope I can maybe find something similar over there. Or just import this one with custom CSS. Do they have that there?

I've noticed LJ looking all weird and wonky today - wtf is going on?!

I'm over at DW as well - jessm78, same as here :)

They've gotten rid A LOT of the very useful functions on the default comment pages - most notable the subject line for comments, a weird new userpic chooser thingy and no more "parent" link in threads. If you have custom comment pages, you still have all these functions. But, yeah. Really stupid move on LJ's part.

I will add you!

I'm shanachie_quill over there too. And I tend to post there first and let it crosspost to eljay.

I'm dragongirl345 on dreamwidth. I may have sent you a message over there!:) I haven't done anything over there yet. There doesn't seem to be a lot of communities over there that I'm truly interested in (hogwartsishome) right at the moment.

Gotcha!

Not sure what I'm gonna do about crossposting and all that. I guess we'll see...

Yup, I got it!

Yeah, the comms thing is what I'm mostly worried about. If all of that is still here that's gonna kinda suck.

OMG yes, I noticed the weird userpic chooser thingy. It's really annoying for people who have a lot of them and they're not even in order. I also noticed in some of the comms where people post anonymously, you can't see the subject headings or date/time unless you expand the threads! SO ridiculous.

Thanks! :)

At least for individual journals, you can set it up to automatically crosspost to ElJay. That's what I did. And it seems to work nicely. Just means everything is double posted...but *shrugs* that way if ElJay goes down, I've already got it in DW and can just continue working.

And if I ever decide to delete ElJay completely...everything's already there.

My communities and such are still on Eljay though.

I have a mostly unused journal over there -- same name, spazzula (http://spazzula.dreamwidth.org/) -- that I'm going to dust off and reopen, since you're the third person on my flist making the move. Friending you there, too -- now I just have to find time to sit down and figure out how DW differs from (old) LJ...

I got you added back!

That's gonna be the biggest thing - the learning curve. Figuring out what all the DW equivalents of LJ terms are and stuff. But, we'll get it done, I think.

I`ve just added you, welcome to my Dreamwidth happy place *g*

As far as I know Dreamwidth is going to add the community import soon. This would solve your fic comm problem. It seems to work the same as it does for a journal import.
I`d wait for an information about this, and even more wait until the (current) huge import line from livejournal is gone. At this time the Dreamwidth import is about to explode because of new journals.

You should be able to change the layout to a custom layout. You`d need to do some "click & click" and add changes to the settings, but it *should* work.

I`m gonna try it myself as soon as I have some spare time to play with the coding.

Import comms?!?!? YAY!!!!

I was chatting with Bri last night and she gave me some links to read through and play with to import my layout. So, I'm gonna futz with that today and see what I can do.
