Watching these first few weeks of So You Think You Can Dance has taught me one thing: I don't give a shit about modern/contemporary dance. I guess I'm like Erik from Center Stage: "I do ballet because it has nothing to do with the people. Give me tiaras and boys in tights any day."

I didn't think I was this snobbish about it, but it would seem I am. Or maybe I'm just in a bad mood cos work was pretty awful and then Martouf was being a two year old so, you know, that was fun....

Out of all the numbers I only really liked two: the one with Amelia with the dumpster and they were cats; and the Broadway one with Cyrus. On the topic of Cyrus, I gotta admit he didn't really do too terribly. I think he managed to get a good style this week. Broadway, I think, is a fairly easy transition for him into learning choreography. But even in the opening number, he was holding his own pretty well. I still don't think he'll last terribly long, just because, technically, he doesn't have what he needs: flexibility, technique, etc. But, like Nigel said, he is a phenomenal performer. I hope he's able to really do something with the exposure this is giving him.

LOL! I definitely feel the same way about dance. (and am a closet Centre Stage fan, I have the DvD, watch it occasionally.)
Yu know the main guy in that, Ethan Stiefel, he's the new artistic director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Quite the coup apparently. They also have a documentary series following the ballet company, it's really interesting - its called "The Secret Lives of Dancers".

Have you seen the sequel? It's actually pretty decent for a direct-to-DVD release.

Really? Good for Ethan! There was actually just a 6-week series here following Ballet West out in Salt Lake City. It really is very interesting. I may have to look up that one online, see if I can find it anywhere.

Oh yeah, i remember seeing there was a sequel, but no I haven't seen it. Sounds like a fab thing for a rainy day over summer :-D (rather than a rainy day in winter, which it is today :( :p ).
