Has everyone seen this thread over at Gateworld? OMG. It's frickin' hysterical! You have to go read it! Of special note, is that person's ranting diatribe on Page 4.

Oops, did you drop a red herring? Here, let me return it to you. While nothing more will be said about this (apparently), it is worth noting that in this case, the posts in question were not deleted by the poster himself.

I've received an explanation from the mod. It's a cop-out, of course, but there's no point in saying anything else.

I responded to an argument of a mod's against downloading episodes and my post was deleted. I assumed it was the mod who I responded to - skydiver - and I was (apparently) wrong. I apologize to skydiver for singling her out; instead, shame should be cast on the mods who actually did delete the post, whoever they are.

To destroy a piece of writing because it expresses a view - in this case, a line of reasoning - that you find offensive is one of the most shameful things one can do. It's not like destroying something that can be repurchased, or breaking a bone that can heal. Our democracy, our society and our culture all exist because people wrote ideas and arguments that challenges people's thinking.

I wasn't advocating anything illegal or terrible. I just showed that skydiver's argument had some pretty nasty consequences. And some people - mods - didn't want those consequences shared.

This wasn't about writing down something rude or crude. It's about not wanting people to understand that one view - a popular view (that downloading eps is wrong) - can have consequences that are themselves undesirable.

The mods might protect your eyes from flaming. But the next time you turn on the news, or read an opinion piece, remember that the people censoring those forms of communication are just like the ones here.

It's easy to ignore a problem until it affects you. Next time you feel strongly about something and find yourself being banned, remember what happened here today. The next time you see something happening in the world you disagree with, consider the actions of mods as a microcosm for it.

The mod who deleted my post didn't slaughter Iraqi civilians (is that nasty, Madeline?) and didn't imprison people in Gitmo (how about that?). But she censored the written word, and in doing so maintained the status quo.

Ok, um are you kidding me? Seriously, this is a forum about a TV show where some of the most highly debated topics revolve around which cast member is hottest. Please kindly remove the stick from your ass and go away. People take this fandom stuff waaaaaaay too seriously.
