How do you get a header image with a free journal? Can you do it or do you need a paid account?

I had a header at one point when I had a free account, but that was part of a layout someone made. For the layout to work, I had to dl a file of CSS code, upload it to a hosting site, and link to that file in my LJ settings. But that was a PITA because the file hosting site wasn't reliable.

Ick. That's what I was afraid of. CSS scares me.
