OK, something we need to think about: Do we need to limit the membership to 18+ only? Considering the nature of the stories and info that will be shared, it might be a good idea. Lemme know your thoughts.

Thanks!

I think we should ask authors to warn when they write stories that would only be appropriate for someone over 18 to read. Also to be safe maybe we could include a warning on our info page that some material might be nc-17 and to please only read if you are old enough.

OK. The reason I brough this up was the mods over at [livejournal.com profile] bjficsite, which is the LJ comm for bjfic.net have started a smiliar community, but they are B/J only. They would be interested in affiliating with us, but only if we limit the members to 18+ given the nature of the majority of the content. I do agree given that the show itself was "rated" that.

In that case it is fine with me. However I just went over there to check it out cause i don't go there much and noticed there is a post from today about a similar community to ours..... not sure what that means. Have you seen this?

Shit, I'm sorry... i must be tired. Anyway that sounds cool. I'm all about joining forces. How would we do that? Become one community? I'm feeling a little slow right now, walk me through the plan :)

Well, we wouldn't become one, we'd just be affiliated with each other. Like recommend each other back and forth. If someone found their community first but they had a Ben/Michael story, they would be pointed in our direction to find a beta.

Hmmmm, interesting, but also a little weird. I could go either way I guess. But it does seem like we then become the community for other pairings while they are the B/J community which is the most common pairing (no?). On the other hand seems kinda shitty to be in competition. I guess I would rather join forces as one or go our own way and sink or swim. Honestly though I really am flexible with all this, I have no interest in stepping on any toes and I would just like to see some people find a good person to work with.

What do you think about the whole thing?

I agree with you on that. We may not get a lot of work as B/J is the most popular pairing. But I do think there are enough people out there that we could do OK. Brian/Michael is another huge fanbase, we could draw from. Since they have started this up, I think it would be beneficial to join forces for the benefit of all. :-D LOL

Like i said that is fine with me. We won't stop doing B/J stuff right? Cause i don't mind M/brian or ben, but it isn't really my thing. So i guess i am asking will they expect us to send B/J stuff their way? or will be do both? and how is our affiliation with them beneficial if we do both. I get how it helps us cause they send us stuff that isn't b/j... I guess just for my own personal use i am more interested in b/j and i would hate for us to stop doing it... lots of rambling tonight lol.

I don't think we'd stop doing B/J, either. At least, I hope they don't expect us to do that! LOL. Anyway, we could just not mention that fact and then just see how it goes. I'll wait to see what crazy4qaf says and if we're all in agreement, I'll update tomorrow to a Friends Only 18+ community.

Sounds good. One unrelated thought, maybe we could ask writers who successfully find a beta on our site to give us some sort of credit or pimp us on their site to help our community get more exposure... we could make it clear that it is optionally and only meant to help more people find us.

Thanks! OK well i'm off for now, but i will check back tomorrow to see what crazy4qaf thinks about all of this. Also I feel like you are getting stuck with most of the work on this project so if there is something more i can do to help please let me know. As i have said i am new at all this for the most part and i'm not sure how i can help - though i imagine there will be more to be done as the community gets established (?). Anyway thanks for all you have done.

Kinda funny. I have been checking out our community and the other new one and I noticed they have all the betas and we have a writer... they still can't seem to find each other with two communities! LOL

OK, sorry guys. Long day, not that many hours in it. :/

Anyway, I`m all for 18+, especially since it`s LJ`s policy to label adult-oriented communities as such. Affiliation is good way to go, if it`s possible, but I think B/J orientation should be in the center. JMHO, though. ;) Of course, other conventional and non-conventional couple are more than welcome, as long as we have the betas for them. After all, we would run the commmunity, not necessarily beta the stories ourselves, right? :) So, as long as B/J stay in the center and people are actually interested in getting a beta through this community, I`m totally fine with it. :) Of course, if any problems appear, we`ll deal with it as we go. Huh, great idea about successful hook-ups between writers and betas. Pimp is always a bonus and it would spread a word about us as a community. :D

Awesome! I'll go ahead and make the changes to the community and make it Friends Only. Then I'll get back to the other folk and we can get the affiliation going. :-)

Is the other community friends only? Doesn't seem like it to me and I was just wondering if they are planning to do the same.
