I don't get it

sg_lyrical for the latest challenge. For Atlantis, two of my icons got 1st, 3rd and Best Application. Yay, cool, right? Well, here's the thing: for the Atlantis icons, I really just kinda threw some stuff together so there would be more entries. But for the SG1 side, I spent several hours trying to get the icons together and I loved them. I thought they turned out amazing. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. If you go here I made 2, 8, 13. I LOVED 2 & 13. Seriously. I love how they turned out and thought for sure they would get something. But no. #3 got first, 15 2nd, 1 & 14 tied for 3rd and 16 got Best Application.
So, here's what I want to know: What is wrong with the ones I made? Do they just totally look like crap and I have no idea what I'm doing? Should I stop spending the hours I'm putting into my icons and just slap some crap together each week cos that seems to be what gets me winning icons?
I'm just confused and upset and I don't get it.

You fic is soooo good!!1!11" when it's so filled with typos and horrible grammatic errors, it makes me sick, really. Because, like you said, you almost get to the point of why bother trying any more. But I won't let them get me down! :-D I'll keep going and I'll make them better and better. And soon, they won't be able to deny my genius! Mwa hahaha! :-P
