Vancouver Con 2007 - Part 3
Mar. 30th, 2007 04:42 pmSATURDAY
I cannot even begin to tell you how awesome the set it and how amazing it is to be there. Martin Gero was our tour guide. He’s really funny. So, we’re walking through the parking lot and then down some hallways when we turn the corner and there we are. In Atlantis. It was so surreal. I was there. In the Atlantis gateroom. And they had the rear screen projector up with the puddle effect in it. Erin took my picture standing in front of it. Woohoo! Then we go up THE STAIRS and wander around the meeting room for a little bit. There was nothing on the control room or Weir’s office as they were painting the floor, sadly. But it was still cool. Then we go down and wander through some more generic hallways.
Next we made our way over to the former Blade set. Turns out, they bought it from the producers for $1 since it would have taken the producers $250,000 to tear it down since it was all welded together and stuff. The pier where McKay and Weir got drenched in The Storm and The Eye was right at the front. As was the set of the Aurora and Orion. The entire set is just the back wall. That’s all there is to it. Anytime they were looking out the front of the ship, it was all green screen. Kind of strange to see. Then we made our way up some stairs to the balcony on the second floor. The glass stair way was there. It was also where they shot the little party scene at the end of Rising. On the first floor is just a big open space that they can make into whatever they want. They were doing construction for upcoming episodes so there was nothing in there when we were there.
From there we went down to the village set. That was actually really cool. There’s a lot more in there than you think. And quite a few of the buildings have practical interiors. It was kind of half under construction for The Ark of Truth movie, so it was kind of messy. The only thing that’s real in that set is the cobblestone floor. Everything else is Styrofoam. Martin Gero took us up and behind one of the front buildings and down a hallway that was being transformed into a cave like set for the first movie.
Our next stop was the ship sets. The Daedalus, Apollo, etc. It’s all just one set, obviously. You know what the difference is between all the ships? The plaque on the wall! When we were there it was set up as the Apollo. Funny story – we were wandering around the bridge and Erin went up to the star map thingy to have her picture taken. She leaned very lightly on the platform and it moved! Apparently it’s on wheels and it wasn’t locked. Erin broke the set! Haha.
We then moved on to where the ship from the Atlantis episode The Ark was. It had been transformed into some other ship for the 4th season episode Travelers. It looked really cool. From there it was over to the puddle jumper for the official photo op. It was pretty cool being in there. Although I think I may need to Photoshop McKay into mine cos it looks so empty! LOL The F302 was in there, too. Got a quick shot of that.
And now, it’s off to the SGC!
That was awesome. We were walking down a hallway and then bam! There we were in the gateroom. So cool. So so cool. Got my picture in front of the gate. Hehe! It’s so freaking cool. I was there! I was in the SGC! Squee!! Hehe. We went through the control room and the briefing room. Which were both smaller than they look. But I guess that’s the magic of TV.
And that was it. Back to the hotel.
The first guest on Saturday was Steve Bacic. He’s very charming, very funny, and very hot. Which I, for some reason, felt the need to tell him. Well, I didn’t come right out and be like “You’re hot.” But I went up to ask him what he thought about the whole Major Coburn/Camulus thing. He replied that he hadn’t really thought about it, but if he did, it would make his eyes cross. So then he asked me what I thought. And I went on this ramble about how his team was on some mission when they got captured. Camulus’ original host was dying and he’s certainly attractive enough to be a Goa’uld…. Ugh. What the hell happens to me at these things? It’s like my internal monologue just completely shuts down. Anyway, that got some hoots and hollers from the audience, of course. He talked a bit about Andromeda and that how Martin Wood pranked him and Kevin Sorbo during filming one day. He came up to them both and said that for filming purposes they needed to put these bright pink X marks of gaffer tape over their nipples on their shirts. They both figured there would be some sort of visual effect put in later. So they start doing their scene and finally realize that all the crew is trying not to laugh at them and that Martin was just joking. And they had been wandering around for a good while with these bright pink Xs on their shirts. Too funny. And we got him to take his shirt of for charity. We raised $900! Not too shabby.
Then during his photo op, I introduced myself as the girl who was stalking him through his sister-in-law. He apologized that he had only just gotten the message the day before, so he missed our party. Then as we were getting ready to take the picture, he starts rising up on his toes. Cos, at 6' tall and in my 2" heels, I’m pretty much taller than everyone. So, he’s standing on his toes in our photo op and I look stupid cos I’m trying not to laugh. I think I just need to start taking my shoes off during the photo ops. Or something. And he personalized my autograph! I had him sign the DVD cover with New Order on it, which has a picture of Thor on the cover. It says "Kerri, I luv Thor! Steve." It’s so funny.
But, while I was in line waiting for Steve’s autograph, I missed the Carmen photo ops. They never announced it in the auditorium! Grr. But, it got worked out. Cos Carmen was on stage with Teryl and Cliff and Cliff’s photo op was at 9:30 that night. So, I talked to Adam and Mama Duck and they managed to arrange it that Carmen would pop in quick before the Cliff photos started. So, yay! I got my Carmen photo. And let me just say, he was sloshed. Like, seriously. But, it was cool. He’s a great guy.
So, speaking of Carmen, Teryl and Cliff… They were all a hoot together! Carmen and Teryl were drinking wine. So they were feeling good. Cliff was lovely as always. And, once again, we got Cliff and Carmen shirtless!! Woohoo!! Got $1300 for the two of them.
Let’s see. I think the best thing that happened besides Teryl running around and stuffing money in her bra, would be when someone asked her what she would have done at the cabaret if she had been there. She was supposed to be, but whatever she was filming ran late and she couldn’t make it. She was going to do “Hey Big Spender” or whatever the name of that song is. The girl who asked her about it was apparently asking for the guy that was sitting behind her or something. So, Teryl calls him up on stage and sits him in that prop chair that had been on stage all weekend. She sets the scene that he’s in a bar and she comes in and their eyes meet and it’s magical! Before she starts, Cliff runs over to help seductively drape him across the chair. It was quite funny! Oh, and Carmen gave him wine. Lots of wine. So, Teryl does her thing and she is AMAZING. I think the wine was helping quite a bit, cos she practically went into a lap dance on the poor guy at one point. And this guy could not have been much more than 20 or so. I’m not quite sure how he was able to stand up after it was all over. But it was a hoot. I have never laughed so hard. It was great.
Then I got up to ask them all that if they could take anything from the set, besides the stargate, what would they take and why. Cliff wanted to take his hand device. Teryl wanted to take her lab coat and stethoscope and just wear those around the house. Which spawned all sorts of bad thoughts of Dr. Fraiser in black lace panties and bra, stiletto heels and the lab coat and stethoscope. Is that wrong? And for some reason, I can’t remember what Carmen said. I know he answered. I just have no idea what he wanted. Does anyone else?
Then came their autographs in which I got Cliff to sign my leg. Again, what the hell was I thinking? No idea.
I missed the costume contest cos I wanted to be near the front of the line for Cliff’s photo op so we could be over and done with the Carmen bit. But Geeky!Carter won. And her costume was great. But not only did she have the costume, she had the attitude and the mannerisms. Everything. It was great.
So, then photo op time with Cliff. Again, I’m like a good 3-4 inches taller than him, so when I first got in there, he wrapped his arms around me and laid his head on my shoulder. Awww. So I started stroking his head as you would do. Well, anyway, he was just goofing around, but the photographer thought he was being serious, so he went to take the picture. Right as Cliff started to stand up. So, I actually got two shots out of them! The goofy one I have hanging in my cube at work. It’s not that bad. And it’s nice to look at Cliff all day. :-)
Next up was the dessert party. A bunch of us decided to get all dressed up, so that was fun. I wore my fabulous little black dress with the pockets and the shoes! The shoes made the outfit. Anywho, Carmen, Cliff, Teryl, Steve and Andee were all at the party. Andee originally wasn’t scheduled but she was having so much fun, she decided to stay! Yay! During the dessert party we began The Misadventures of David Read’s Jacket. Further details will be revealed at Gateworld in due course. Hehe. Carmen stopped by first. Didn’t have time to say much. They never do, sadly. Then Andee came by. We got her to participate in the Misadventures. We wouldn’t have bothered if David hadn’t mentioned that it was really him that managed to convince her to come to the con and he felt a little responsible for her that weekend. We just had to get her in on it. She was a good sport and played right along. Poor David was so embarrassed. Then, somehow, we got Steve and Cliff at the same time. It was really hard trying to figure out where to look. But since Pat was monopolizing Cliff, we decided to chat with Steve. Although we had to give Cliff the tiara to put on Mama Duck. Haha! He did eventually. Someone has pictures somewhere! I need to see them!! Then Teryl stopped by. She was a hoot as always.
Then after that, we went back up to Pat’s little suite and hung out for a bit where the Misadventures of David’s Jacket continued. LOL. It’s still funny! I don’t care what he says!

Date: 2007-03-31 05:59 am (UTC)Really? What time was your tour? Because we went on the 11:00 one and I wouldn't have guessed that because there wasn't any paint smell from what I could tell and Weir's office was completely set up with all the props seemingly in their correct places (people were getting pics at her desk). There were even pictures of various cast members framed on the shelves behind her desk (including a cute one of Michael in his tux from 200) and things all set up on her desk and the shelving units. Weird.
Glad you had fun though. Are you planning on going next year too or were you just going to concentrate on the Chicago one?

Date: 2007-03-31 03:51 pm (UTC)Sadly, I won't be going back to Vancouver. It's just a little too much for me to do every year. Chicago is much more affordable since I live here. :-)

Date: 2007-03-31 04:04 pm (UTC)Sorry you didn't get to see that stuff... I had a few friends on a couple other tour times and I found out most people didn't get to run around like we did; only if Smith was your guide.
