Vancouver Con 2007 - Part 4
Mar. 30th, 2007 04:44 pmSUNDAY!
Sunday morning started off with a screening of David Hewlett’s movie "A Dog’s Breakfast." Can I just say that I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard at a movie. I started squeaking is how funny this is. I mean, you have David naked, Paul McGillion on drag, Chris Judge, Rachel Luttrell. It’s just way too funny. You have to see it. Log onto his website and request a screening. It really cannot be missed. Oh! So we were sitting there waiting for it to start and Erin turns around to just kind of look around and see who’s there and she starts waving. So I turn around to see who she’s waving at. It’s David! He’s up in the projector booth with his little video camera filming the audience. So I wave. He waved back at us! OMG. We totally started giggling like high school girls or something. I wish we had been able to stay and maybe talk to David or get a picture or something. But there was no time as there was another screening after ours and we had to get back to the hotel for the brunch.
The food sucked ass. It was some kind of fajita buffet thingy. The beef was rubbery and just tasted gross. So for my payment of $75 I got a handful of tortilla chips. Lovely. But we had David DeLuise, Torri Higginson, Rachel Luttrell and Dan Shea as guests. David was a lot funnier than I was expecting. I think. Honestly, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But he is a DeLuise, so I guess that counts for something. But he was very charming and went around and asked all of us our names and where we were from and shook everyone’s hand. It was very nice.
Then we got Torri. She is so pretty in person it was almost shocking. Then Rachel. Erin gave her a t-shirt that said “Why do you get to be Mr. Fantastic?” on it. Rachel loved it and said she would wear it for Joe. :-D Last was Dan. I have no idea what we chatted about. But I’m sure it was good. LOL
As to be expected, there was a long line for Michael’s photo op. But that’s OK cos once again, I somehow got two out of the photographer. I’m not sure why. He took the first one, looked at it and said “Let’s do that again.” Oh, darn. You mean I have to stand there with my arm around Michael for even longer? Say it isn’t so! LOL. The second one worked and that was that. But when I went to pick them up later, I couldn’t tell which was the bad and which was the good. *shrug* So I have two. And one is also in my cube with Cliff keeping me company.
So, I missed the beginning of David’s talk because of the line. But that’s OK. He was up there telling stories about his brother and Dad and stuff. Then someone got up and mentioned that everyone else had taken there shirts off and would he. He said something like “Yeah. Getting Cliff to take his shirt off is like asking a fish if he likes to swim.” At least, I think it was David. The weekend was starting to blur at this point. But, we got him, too! Woohoo! And Dan Shea joined him as well. Rock on. They were funny cos someone in the back put on “I’m Too Sexy” over the speakers so they both did that thing where they turn around and rub their hands over their back like it was someone else and they were making out. Then they whipped around and took off their shirts! It was awesome. I think we got $800 for them. So, for the whole weekend, we got almost $3000 with all the men taking off their shirts. Spontaneously, too! We rock. LOL. Oh! And through the rest of the talks, David kept popping out from back stage and asking silly questions in this high, lispy voice. You really can’t give a DeLuise a microphone and expect them to behave.
Then there was Michael! He’s just so freakin good looking I don’t know what to do. His hair was a little strange cos of his role on 24. He’s playing some Washington-type person. So he has that uber-conservative Washington haircut. I’ll be happy when he cuts back to SG1 style. What did he talk about….
The glasses thing in the elevator during Serpent’s Venom was all Rick. Hehe. That little tidbit just feeds my slashiness to no end. Apparently, it was Rob Cooper’s mother who finally hit the nail over the head that Daniel needed new glasses. So, thank you very much Mrs. Cooper.
He couldn’t say much about his role on 24 since there’s apparently this huge disclaimer thing on every script with “DO NOT REVEAL THE CONTENTS TO ANYONE OR YOU WILL DIE!!!” kind of thing on it. He was able to mention that he is on the President’s side of the story. Whatever that means. But couldn’t say if he was a good guy or a bad guy. His first episode is episode 18 which airs in about 3 weeks, I think?
They are planning on doing a Men of SciFi calendar, but the shooting of that is up to Chris at the moment. And he is currently occupied writing this pilot the two of them are hoping to exec produce. He said Chris was flying down to LA this past Tuesday to meet with NBC folks. I think. But he’s thinking they’ll probably shoot it sometime this summer. I don’t know about you, but I will be first in line for that one. ;-)
Then at the end, a friend of mine from online had created this Thank You she wanted to present to Michael. So a few of us got together and signed one copy of it which was rolled up nicely with ribbon and another copy was framed. It was so, so nice and classy. It was kind of like one of those ads you’d see in Variety. It just had a director’s chair off on one side with his name and Actor, Writer, Director. Then some quote by Nietzsche about a man finding himself? Or a man knowing who he is. It was very touching and very appropriate. I wish I had a link so you could all see what it looked like. It was really beautiful. So Adam told us to all go up on stage to present it to Michael. He was really touched by it, which was nice to see.
After Michael’s talk was the Cliff/Michael sandwich photo op. Yummy! We got a group shot, too. So I got to be between them twice! Teehee. But, while waiting in that line we missed Dan Shea’s talk (which I heard was hysterical and Johnny got to do some kind of stunt with him) and the two Furling actors. :-( Oh, well.
I also missed the beginning of Rob Cooper’s talk. He was OK. He had some funny moments, but apparently he read 2 pages from The Ark of Truth script. That I’m sad I missed. He couldn’t really talk much about any of the upcoming projects. One cos they don’t know for sure what exactly is happening with the third series as the movie is taking up their time and two, they just don’t want to give too much away about the movie. He did talk a bit about the second one – Continuum and that they were going to be starting filming in the Arctic in a couple days. It was minus 50 or something up there. Brr.
Then N. John Smith talked for a bit about stuff. He was about as informative as Rob was. But that’s OK.
CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE EPISODE "SUNDAY"
Rachel and Torri were up next. They were on together. Rachel is a very silly person. But in a good way. She seems like one of those people you’d love to have as a friend and do silly things with. Torri was sick, so she was a little quieter. Someone did get her to do the dolphin voice thing she does. And one girl had a set of sticks so Rachel demonstrated one of her upcoming stick fight stunt things. It looked really awesome. It ends with her whipping a scalpel into some guy’s stomach. Rock on! I think there’s 3 or 4 guys she’s taking on. It should be pretty cool to see. She also mentioned that they are working on a big Teyla arc (finally!) for this season. Torri said she was trying to get her dog an agent down in LA.
Then someone asked that of all the wonderful guest stars they’ve had on the show, if any of them were difficult to work with or if everyone was just great. At first they were both, “No, everyone is so great. So nice, blah blah blah.” But then Rachel said something about this one guy who was apparently kind of creepy. She wouldn’t name names though, but Torri knew who she was talking about. I’m wondering if it’s that guy who played the scientist that was hitting on Weir in Sunday. He was totally giving off a creepy vibe all through the episode. I wanna know!!
Then they did their autographs and that was it. Con over. :-(
So, that’s it. I hope you liked the report. I’m now getting ready for Chicago 2007. Just heard that Teryl and Carmen were added to the bill. Woohoo! Should be awesome.
Oh! I need all my Stargate friends to do me a favor. Well, I guess you don’t have to be a Stargate fan, but it would probably help. I need you to e-mail Adam@creationent.com and request Colin Cunningham to come to the Chicago Con. Please please please! I’ve heard he’s just so funny, and charming and he’s the one actor I’ve been dying to meet. And since I role play him (well, Major Davis) on this one site, I feel I must! Thank you!
