This came about from something on the radio this morning. One of local stations here has started doing a "list" at the top of every hour. They throw out a topic and then play back 4 requests that somehow fit in with that topic. Today, one of the topics was anger and one of the songs played back was Rammstein's Du Hast. This then inspired an argument of whether Hate is Anger, etc. I believe Yoda's quote was thrown out at one point. But then some guy called in and said "Du Hast" doesn't mean "You hate me." It means "You have asked me a question." Well, that's completely different than what everyone assumes it means (just another example of what assuming does). Anyway, I thought I would look up all the lyrics and see if there was an English translation. There is!! So, behind the cut I give you the real meaning of Du Hast:
Du
Du hast
Du hast mich
Du
Du hast
Du hast mich
Du hast mich
Du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab
nichts gesagt
Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet
treu ihr sein fur alle Tage...
nein
Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide
sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen....
nein
[English translation:]
[You Have]
You
You have
You have me
You
You have
You have me
You have asked me
You have asked me
You have asked me
And I said nothing
will you until death does part you
be true to her on all days
Never
will you 'til the death of the slit,
love her, even in bad times
Never
So, a completely different song than what I thought it was. More interesting though, I think...
