So, I'm sort of working on my first crossover fic, and it's a doozy - Doctor Who with Atlantis. Now, here's the thing, Doctor Who exists in the SGA universe. Anyone have any tips for dealing with that? Right now, I'm working on a Rodney sort of freaking out all "No no no, this can't be happening. You're a TV show" etc etc. But what else? Or is that enough? And do I have the Doctor and everyone look the same as on the show we see? Cos that would be kinda weird. I think. But then, who do they look like? And Jack has to be there and he has to look like John Barrowman.

Please help before my brain explodes!! :-)

First off, I have no idea.

Second, just commenting to say, 'huh, that's interesting' because most crossovers I've read make the assumption that neither source is a show/movie/book in the other.

Normally I would go that route, but I'm like 99% sure that Rodney has let out a couple Doctor Who references over the years. I think. If not, then maybe I don't need to worry about it?

If that's the only thing that you're having problems with, then I would just handwave the references away. It's fic; we can ignore large chunks bits of canon if we like.

I'm thinking I might. :-) I've been thinking about this every possible way and just cannot get my head around it.

Uhhh...wish I could help. I have enough issues with my own crossover, that and I have never seen a single episode of Dr. Who (yet I adore Torchwood, how weird is that?). At any rate, I'd definitely beta it for you, though I doubt I could do a superb a job as you have, picking out all my grammatical, spelling and consistency errors.

It does sound interesting though. And why wouldn't they look like they do on the show? I mean they could look slightly differently, I mean no actor looks the exact same as he does on the show there is always something different, like how they wear their hair, how they dress. Unless they have a distinctive look, like Jason or Joe F.

Because in my head, it's like that plausible deniability thing. I.E. Wormhole Extreme vs. Stargate. But maybe I need to watch all of Atlantis again to see if there are any actual Dr. Who references in the show. Maybe I'm just thinking of fanfics....

Oh I am sure there are Dr. Who references, I just didn't catch any of them because I don't want that show. But if there are Hitchiker references, I am sure there are Dr. Who in there somewhere. I mean, they can look their counterparts on Dr. Who, people just assume that they are the actors....that could work right?

That could, I guess. But I think I'm just gonna scrap the whole they both exist kinda thing. It's just too hard!
