So, I'm contemplating adding the Buffy TV show to my Netflix queue. I was sort of interested in it way back when, and then I kept hearing things about it, but it was too late to get into it. And then after seeing him as Captain JackJohn I've decided that James Marsters is all kinds of sexy. So, oh, great f-list, should I?

ETA: Got 'em all! I knew I could count on you guys!! :-D

Buffy is 500000000000000000% worth it! The later seasons, the quality definitely drops off, but IMHO, it should be required viewing for everyone ever.

YESYESYESYES!!! Definitely worth it. Spike isn't in it alot at the begining but after leaving and returning a few times he becomes a regular part of the cast.

Absolutely. Possible the greatest genre tv series ever. Season 1 takes a bit to get going, but is important because it lays so much of the story groundwork. About halfway through season 2 it just takes off. The finale to season 2 just blew my tiny little mind. The spinoff, Angel, is also worth watching, though IMO it fell apart halfway through season 3.

i agree as well. Loved Buffy, have all 7 seasons.. though, season 5 was a bit dull. And Angel was good as well. I agree with the above statement that it died in S3, and S4 was bad, but they redeemed themselves in S5..

Buffy is definitely worth viewing :)

Small note....James Masters plays Captain John in Torchwood. John Barrowman is Captain Jack *siiiiiigh*

I own all the Buffy's and Angel's. I love it, but I like the earlier seasons of Buffy better. But hey, that's me personally. I still watch them. I have a few best Eps if you're interested in them.. I can give you some heads up :D

A definite yes. The show is interesting, clever and very funny. The early years are a wonderful parody of American high school social interplay and cliques.

Before seeing Buffy, check out the movie on which it was based. It's also funny, but very different. It gives you a little of her back story since the series starts after the movie.

I've seen the movie. That was kind of one reason I was a little skittish about the TV show cos the movie was this total comedy, not at all serious thing. And then the TV show came it was all dark and gothic seeming. But it seems that that didn't matter! :-)

It is all dark and gothic contrasted against high school silliness. It's very funny, funnier than the movie in my opinion, but in a more sophisticated way (not that Buffy is sophisticated :P).

I avoided the show for most of the first season for the same reason as you, but a friend insisted I check it out. Have we mentioned the excellent cast? Almost everyone on the show has a very active career.

There are some very interesting surprises for you, too. I won't spoil you but:
1)The show where Xander was split in two.

2)The episode where all the adults act like teenagers. LOL. The fun in that episode goes on. ;)

3) The Troll episode (Are you an "ER" fan?)

4) Dracula comes to town. Get out!

I'm laughing just thinking about these shows. :-D
