Several reasons; primarily the insanity of modern mainstream meat and dairy production, which I think is bad for humans (mad cow, anyone?), bad for the environment, and bad for animals.

Also I think it's a healthier lifestyle and the only meat I was really in love with is crazy expensive to eat regularly (salmon).
