*sighs*.....bashing Daniel at Gateworld?....surely you jest?....*takes off cynical hat*.....

Actually I LOATHE any fan who takes great delight in bashing another character, which is another reason why I very rarely frequent any thread on Gateworld apart from the dear old J/D Slash thread....I stay there because it's the last refuge for some of us Senior Hussies who remember happier days on the Daniel thread and elsewhere....plus for some reason Slashers seem to be a far more rationally minded bunch of people than many other groups I've encountered in the Stargate fandom....*winks*....I knew all that porn does you some good!!!...

Oh and having just seen who's posting on there and bragging about her time in Vancouver with Corin and the other actors, I wouldn't go near that thread with a bargepole.....that girl (with her equally obnoxious friend) was responsible for ruining many con-goers' Vancouver experiences this year, in various ways!!!.....

Totally agree. I mean, in most shows there are perhaps a character or two I don't care for as much as the others, but I don't "hate" any of them. I've never understood character bashing in any way. Except perhaps in crack!fic and only then if it's done properly. ;-) LOL

Ridiculous. I don't understand why some people think it's okay to bash another character in defense of your favorite. Just makes out to be the bigger loser. I adore and love Daniel, doesn't mean I hate Jonas. Do I hate the fact that Daniel wasn't in so many season 6 episodes? Sure...but that's just my unabashed wanting for more Daniel. I enjoyed Corin immensely as Jonas and felt that he did a wonderful job filling in some mighty big shoes. At any rate, I just can't stand groups of fans standing against one another for the sake of one character or one ship. That's truly the biggest problem in fandom today...and according to the hubs always has been (he refers to the wars among Trekkies that have spanned decades).

LOL. Nice icon, BTW. It seems especially true with Daniel/Jonas fans. It's like you can't like both. Oh, no. You have to be a Daniel fan or a Jonas fan. And if you're not a Daniel fan? Then how the fuck did you get through over 100 episodes with him?? Makes no sense to me.

I don't understand the black and white mentality either, it's just so nonsensical to me. So I am not a Jack and Sam shipper. I can appreciate the subtleties to the relationship and be blatantly ignorant of it in pursuit of my Jack/Daniel shippiness too. It's okay, really. But some people are so damn divisive.

Love your icon too, but you already know that. Mine is from my favorite Enterprise episode(s) In a Mirror, Darkly (Parts 1 and 2). Hoshi gets to play a bitchy Japanese girl and is way cooler IMO in both those episodes then she is in four seasons of Enterprise. That icon is me showing my Empress Sato love. ;-) *dorky grin*

When will people learn that bashing characters is not a good look.

It is only human to favour one character over another but that does not mean that bashing is ok.

Don't get me started about Dumb and Dumber....grr those two are reponsible for spoiling so many people's con experience this last Vancouver.. from denting the car of MGM's offical representative to making guests feel uncomfortable to getting wasted with no social skills.

If the bashing continues any longer, I might have to say something really. And I would try to be polite, cos they are generally a wacky, crazy bunch! (in a good way) Something like, "Hey, ya know, this is a THUNK thread, not a BASHING thread, can we please get back on topic?" :-D

Good idea but honestly if Dumb and Dumber is in the thread you will need the support you can get from all the non bashers people on the thread.

Which brings me to the other intense dislike I have toward people who bash Daniel, Sam, or Jonas: They turn it against the actor, too. I mean, *come on*, people, get your heads out of your asses.

I'm totally with you on that. Jack/Sam is just never gonna happen and should never happen. However, that has never affected my opinion of Sam. I will admit in later seasons I didn't really like what TPTB did with her (Gemini, anyone??), but that's an issue with them. Not Sam or Amanda. I love Amanda. I think she's absolutely fantastic. But bashing her character? Ugh, no.

Exactly. There are some episodes I simply can't tolerate watching again because they're so badly characterized. Doesn't mean I'll forever hate the character. What I especially don't like is bashing just because the character is "in the way" of the greatest love story ever told. *barf* I've run across a lot of Daniel haters who hate him *only* because he's got so much chemistry with Jack and is therefore a threat to the Wonderful World of Jack and Sam. *sighs*

Those Sam/Jack shippers are seriously insane. I DO NOT get it. It's a TV SHOW. These aren't real people. Ugh.

But, if we ever wish to rebut the shippers, there is a very convincing argument for why J/S is bad. In every AU we've seen where Sam and Jack are together, the world gets blown up by the Goa'uld. I don't know about you, but I really don't want to see that happen. LOL

The J/S Horsewomen especially. I mean, just, WOW.

LOL I can refute the J/S ad nauseam, but my main argument is always: "Direct Chain of Command" and "Court Martial". ;) ETA: And she'd be the one bounced, not him. That is a nastily sexist world.

The Jack and Sam Horsewomen. A community of particularly nasty shippers who have a serious hatred for Daniel. The slash part of me explained it as their recognition as Daniel as a rival, and therefore a threat. I find that amusing, because they denounced SG-1 slash so vehemently, yet they considered Daniel a threat. Go figure. ;)

See, I would say that I kinda do feel that way, though out of a morbid sense of humor instead of negative opinions about the character. I am, after all, the girl who used to keep a complete death count for each team member, AU versions of team members, and robots made to look like team members so I had the info ready for any time someone posted on the skiffy boards asking how many times Daniel had died.

Well, see, I wouldn't say that's the same thing at all. I keep body counts, too. Cos by now it's just amusing how many times Daniel has died. I know they say no one ever dies in scifi, but come on! LOL And it doesn't mean I/we derive any pleasure from Daniel actually dying. I still bawl like a baby whenever I watch that ep. It sucks.

BTW - I'm having some issues with my ripping software at the moment. Hopefully I can get it sorted out. It hasn't stopped working or anything. It's just decided to start taking 12 minutes to rip a 20 second clip. No joke.

*sighs*...I just read the replies to you on there Kerri.....what happened to the days of the Senior Hussies where everyone was happy to listen to the others point of view and treat ALL characters in Stargate with respect...I never remember any rudeness to one another on there in the old days of the DJ Thunk thread.....

Another nail in the great Gateworld Coffin I'm afraid for me....there just aren't the same nice people around on there any more.....

I'm staying in the J/D Thread now....I'm just not bothering with ANY of the other thunk or relationship threads....

No one there knows anything about what she's saying. It just makes it seem like she can't defend herself unless she has all her little friends around her going "Oh, you poor thing! I guess I was disappointed after finding wank all over a fun thread (I'm constantly astounded that such a divisive character has an almost wank-free thread), and an all too familiar complaint about bashing a fictional character in a post bashing real people who have nothing to do with it, so it hit my auto response mode. Maybe I spend too much time hoping that people can understand fans of [insert character] are not homogeneous groups.

It's a shame if you feel that you can't come and play. As you well know the Daniel rarely comes up, and you can, like other people have, say "Hey, I like Daniel!"
Or you can distract everyone by posting pretty pictures. :D

I never wanted any kind of wank from any of this. This was just me, coming home from a nice little vacation weekend away and feeling slightly disappointed at the possible direction I saw the thread taking and needed to let that frustration out. I didn't wand it to get back there and was just trying to wait it out and hope that it didn't evolve into anything more. I was not attacking anyone in particular and it's a shame people have to take things so personally. I just don't get character bashing at all. It seems like such a waste of time. If you hate a character so much, why do you want to spend so much time discussing why you hate them? Why can't we all just get along?

Whether you wanted wank or not, the unfortunate thing about the internet is that there are always some clever souls who think your post is a great excuse go jump on someone who thinks different to them. And then it gets personal. Which goes double for a thread of very few posters.

It was just a possible direction, and it's not a direction we particularly like to go in since it hands ammunition to more bashers/bashing. I guess because normally ignoring it, or gently nudging away from it, usually works there was noticably no great reaction in the thread. It doesn't mean mass agreement. Consider it an "aaaand we're walking".

In the unlikely event of it going the way you thought there are certainly a few people who would have coughed loudly and pointed out it was inappropriate. Still, it would have been swifter to politely say something "in-house" as it were (and I'm 99.9% certain you would have got an "Oops, sorry" at that point).

I've always felt the thread was very welcoming of different opinions. If you like Corin, accepting the different seems a positive requirement. :D
