Question for my Harry Potter friends

I just finished watching Order of the Phoenix again and I have a possibly random question. Now, I've never read the book, so it may be answered in there, but in the scene in the end where they basically destroy that prophecy room, what happens to those prophecies? Do they get "destroyed" or something like that? Or does nothing happen? Are they still in existence?

I don't remember them specifically saying, but it is strongly alluded that they were completely destroyed. There is a missing scene at the end where Dumbledore explains the prophecy to Harry in detail because he was the only other person to have heard it. It should also be noted that as fabulous as that fight sequence was in the movie, there was so much more in the book.

So, what does it mean when a prophecy is destroyed? That it's not true any more? And since Harry's was broken, does that mean that they can both be alive now?

The prophecy itself isn't destroyed. Just the recording of it. It remains true that one of them has to die. I take it you haven't read book 7? It is kinda cool how it's pulled off. :-)

Ah, ok. I was thinking that the balls or whatever were mostly just "recording devices." I haven't read any of the books, but feel free to spoil me. I know most of what happens already, anyway. :-D

Ditto to pretty much what everyone else says, the prophecies themselves aren't destroyed, just the recording devices. The prophecy does still somewhat come true. I liken the ending of book 7 to being similar to what happens to Daniel in Meridian. ;-)
