I would like to add my sympathies and heart-felt condolences to the rest of my f-list at the passing of Don S. Davis. He was truly such a great man. I never got tired of hearing the story of how he met his wife. Made me laugh and cry every time. You could really tell how much he loved her. So genuine, so funny. So happy to be doing what he did. He will be missed greatly.

That's a lovely picture.

I'm afraid I don't know that story. :( Could you tell it, please?

It won't be nearly as good as when Don tells it...

Basically, Teryl Rothery set him on a blind date. But also a double date with herself and her husband. They all go out to eat and have a lovely time and they decide to go back to the Rothery's place. At some point Teryl and Ruby are alone in the kitchen getting more wine and Ruby is sort of lamenting over the fact that Don hadn't kissed her yet. There was a moment back at the car as they were leaving the restaurant, I think. Then somehow Teryl & Don are alone and Teryl mentions that Ruby wants Don to kiss her. It's sort of very high school, but in a completely adorable way. Then Ruby and Don end up in the kitchen, someone falls and then Don just grabs Ruby and plants one on her complete with the dip. There's more to it than that, especially with the way Don tells it. But you just get this sense of how much he really loves her. He always tears up at the end of the story. It's really quite something.

Teryl's version is slightly different than Don's version, but they are both equally entertaining. I wonder if someone happens to have that on video somewhere.

Yeah, my re-telling is like the super-abridged version. If not video, a transcript at least....

I didn't hear about this... my thoughts:
1) I loved him in Stargate: SG-1.
2) I have the shirt the girl on the left is wearing.
3) I'm at a loss for words and just truly saddened by this news.

1) Completely agree
2) As do I! It's a great shirt (I'm the one on the right, in case you care)
3) Ditto.

He will be missed. The world of Stargate is lessened by our loss. Things will not be the same without seeing his face. I am sure there will be some sort of memorial at Chicago, since he was tapped to attend. Here's hoping Creation does him right and makes it a good one. I don't usually cry over actors deaths, but this just means so much more because he shared so much of himself with his fans.

And Creation already has a little blurb up here (http://www.creationent.com/cal/sgchi.htm). Good for them. I started crying as I was reading through the Gateworld article about it. He really was just such an amazing man. Not enough nice things can be said about him.

Okay that's cool that they are dedicating the cons to him. There's just something immensely right about that. You're right, there are not enough good words in the human vocabulary to describe Don.

I'm so sad. What a lovely, gentle, gracious man. He was so generous with his time at the con I attended. I bowled up to him in the bar and told him where I was from, and he told me about how he'd visited New Zealand. And then I told him how much my sister loved Hammond in his black ops gear, and he showed me his muscles. Such a sweetie.
