Con Report!!
Aug. 27th, 2008 05:30 pmOK. It's been a few days so I'll try to remember as much as I can. But it might not be that much at this point. LOL
First off, pics are here. There's really not a lot, but I've found that when I am taking pics, I'm not completely paying attention to what they're saying. Which is what I'd rather do. So, yeah. Plus I was kinda far, so I'm sure there will be better pics from other people out there.
Onwards!!
Saturday started with the fabulous Tony Amendola. LOVE him! He has a part in Joss Whedon's upcoming Dollhouse. Yay!! I don't remember if it was a one-off guest spot or recurring role. Either way, excellent. Um, that's kind of all I can remember.... Or all I can say anyway. I got the wonderful opportunity to sit in with Gateworld when they interviewed Tony to be the "official" photographer. Tony was very sweet, very accommodating. The interview should be excellent when they get it up. But that's all I can say at the moment. :-)
Next up was Chuck aka The Chucknician. Chuck needs his own show, right now. Dead serious. The man is a fucking laugh riot! I did not stop laughing whenever he was on stage! Completely hysterical. While he was there, I took the opportunity to ask about his character as I roleplay Chuck over at Stargate Galaxy (a site started by a friend of mine). Apparently, in order to properly play Chuck I need to fit a size 40 jacket and like pushing buttons. The jacket might be a bit big on me, but I do like buttons! :-D
He told a story about The Shrine. The scene between John and Rodney out on the balcony had originally been scripted with them drinking Heineken (or something) and apparently Joe's family has ties to Anheiser-Busch (or however you spell that). So, um, yeah, they couldn't do that. So they got a HUGE pallet of beer the day they were filming that scene. Everyone loved Joe that day. LOL (On a side note, I thought you couldn't actually drink alcohol on screen. Is that not right?)
Then something quite cool happened (it may have been pre-Chuck, I'm forgetting the schedule). Since I had sent Creation several vids in the past, I made note of all the times that they were scheduled to play a vid so I could see if any were mine. I'm out in the hall checking the time and they're set to play one at 12:30. It's about 12:27 so I start heading back to the hall. And I hear it!! They're playing my vid!!! Which YAY!! But :-( cos that meant it wasn't THE winner. I had sent them a vid for the new Michael intro competition thing they were having. Which I will be sharing later this week after I get it uploaded. It was way cool though. Since I had missed the beginning, I missed getting my certificate. So, I found Gary backstage and he had some really lovely words to say. Evidently, they consider my name to be stamp of quality. *beams* So, yeah. And I got another $100 to spend on their crappy merchandise. So I got a fleece for myself and Chad (Gateworld dude that let me in on Tony) and a t-shirt for Erin. So I still have $75 to spend. Guess that'll be going at Burbank! :-)
Then we had...MICHAEL!!! He was a treat as always. And I know have positive confirmation that Michael knows who I am. Sort of. First off, this is funny. So, Erin and I are in line for the Q&A and creeping along the wall, as you do. Well, in conference room, there are telephones hanging on the wall. Erin is not paying attention and runs into one, sending it clattering to the ground. Michael looks over and goes "Oh, honey. You just can't walk into a room quietly, can you?" Hehe. *Mwah!!* Then, we get up to the mike and he looks over and says "I'm gonna stand on the other side of the chair. I know you two way to well!" Thanks, Michael. Love ya, too!! :-P So, I go on to ask my questions - 1) Who's a better kisser: Ben Browder or Christopher Judge? Apparently they both need to shave closer, but it's like comparing apples to avocados. And a gentleman doesn't kiss and tell. So, no answer on that one. Then I asked about Victor on Burn Notice. He said it was a lot of fun to get to play someone that crazy and it was nice having a character that was really different from Daniel. And the producers have given him permission to be even crazier when he goes back at the end of the season. Yay!!
Someone asked about his role in that SciFi movie he did. And if the character description was accurate - a snotty academic who likes to carry around a parasol and would rather read than get his hands dirty. That is true. The person had brought along a little parasol, too. So we got a sample of what Michael with a parasol would be like. It was quite amusing. There should be an announcement coming in the next month about Rage of Angels. He didn't want to say anything about it, though for fear of jinxing it. So, no other comments on that. :-( Sadly, I had to leave about half way through Michael talk to go do the Tony interview thing. Which was a waste, since we didn't get in until well after the talk was over. But, oh well. So, I'll have to catch it somewhere. ;-)
The autograph line. That was fun. I think Chuck was playing with the Creation people and LOVING it. Cos, they're all no personalizing, blah blah blah. Chuck didn't care. He took his time, talked to everyone, personalized everything. It made for a very long line (luckily Chuck was last) but a fun experience. For me, anyway. OK, so anyone who's met me in person has probably heard me laugh. If not, when I start laughing really hard I squeak. Like, I laugh so hard I don't make any noise and when I breathe in, it squeaks. So, we're in the autograph line and he's talking to the person who's maybe 2 people in front of me. Says something extremely funny, as he does, and I start squeaking. He's all WTF? So, when I get up there, he signs the DVD "Kerri - Stop squeeking. Chuck Campbell." Hehe. So I got a very 100% personalized autograph from Chuck. :-D
So, Saturday night was also the lobby party. Since we didn't want to have to worry about getting kicked out the hotel room again, we just went straight there. That was lots of fun. Watched Dr. Horrible, hung out with photographer Chris for a bit, drank way too much. Then Chuck and Alexis stopped by! Woohoo! Chuck held court most of the time. You could tell he was loving it. He lives for that sort of thing. It was great. Alexis just kind of chilled in the background. Which was fine. He was just hanging out. :-D
Or Ben Day as most people were referring to it.
First up, I had to get up way too early to take Erin to the airport. :-( Miss you, hon! EVERYONE was asking where you were on Sunday. Even the photo op gals! They were all "Where's your other half?" LOL I guess people only love me cos I know you. *pout* Hehe. Then I had breakfast with the fabulous Ang!! It was great getting to hang with you! Hope to see you again!!
First guest of the day was David Nykl. He was wonderful! Very personable, very funny. The only part I remember about his talk right now is when someone asked him what he liked to read for leisure (aka, not scripts). He mentioned JPOD. I woohooed! The rest of the audience was completely silent. Woopsy. LOL So, later in his autograph line I asked him briefly if he had ever gotten to see any of the series. He mentioned he'd seen a few and asked if I had read the book. I said it was on my list but I hadn't gotten to it yet. He looks up and says, very seriously, "Read the book." Yes, sir, Mr. Nykl, sir. So, I picked up the book yesterday. It's a big book! Not that I mind big books, but it's not quite what I was expecting, I guess. I'll let y'all know how it is.
Then there was Ben. Let me just say, I get it now. His photo ops were first, before his talk, so that was my introduction to Mr. Browder. He's taller than me!! Anyway, I walk up do the Hi, how are you thing. In return, I get the "How are you?" with the look up and down. *giggle* I think it's mostly cos I'm tall. And most of the people that had just been in front of me weren't. But still. It was nice. :-D Hehe. Ben is a very charismatic man. I had never found him/Mitchell to be a particularly attractive person. Not that he's not attractive, but he just never "did it" for me. He does now. But still, there's something there in person that doesn't come across in pictures. Even looking over my pics from the weekend, there's just not the same feeling as to when you see him in person. But I digress.
One of the first things Ben did was the Farscape "Hell yeah!" thing. Whatever that is. But, he ended up scaring one of the little babies. So, he started singing "Hush little baby" and we all quieted down. And the baby went back to sleep!! It was very cute. He has a great voice. Right off the bat he said he would not answer any questions about working with muppets. So, there goes my one question. Then he goes on to say how he's kissed pretty much everyone on set. Beau Bridges included. Michael needs to shave (funny how they say that about each other) and Chris is kind of wet and sloppy. But Claudia is the best! LOL So, there went my other question. :-( Oh, well.
Perhaps the best moment of the convention came during Ben's talk. During his little opening spiel thing he mentioned how nice and accommodating the Stargate fans had been. Especially because at time he felt like he was sort of "replacing" RDA. Which is a hard thing to do. Later during the Q&A someone asks that if he could have any part on any TV show what would he want to do? He says it would have to be a remake of something as everyone on the existing shows is great. ~Sarah~ yells out from the back "MacGyver!" The couple pics of Ben doubled over with laughter are his reaction to that. The whole audience LOVED it. It was just great. Go Sarah! I miss you babe!!
So, during his talk I managed to come up with another question and drag Nikki into line with me. We're right behind DanaLee, so it's all good. We're getting close to the front, but that man rambles like you would not believe. Takes a good 10 minutes to answer any question. WHich is good cos it's very entertaining. But kinda bad cos you can't get as many questions in. Anyway, Mama Duck comes out and tries to cut him off. He's having none of it. Says he'll be off at 5:57. About 7 minutes from then. It goes back and forth a few times between the microphones and then on our side DanaLee steps up. As she's waiting, she suddenly turns and waves me up. I'm like "What are you gonna do?" Completely freaking out that she's going to embarrass me or something. Well, turns out she just wanted to give her question to me since hers would take some time to answer. Time we did not have. So I ask what it was like to work opposite himself in Ripple Effect. I know, not the best but it was what I came up with. He then goes on about how the only fight he's ever won was against himself from Farscape. Everyone else has kicked his ass. LOL And then that was the end. :-(
I always hate the ends of conventions. It's so sad saying bye to everyone. But we ended the weekend with dinner at Chili's. It wouldn't be the Chicago Con if there wasn't dinner at Chili's!! And I had to go say bye to photographer Chris. I had no idea he remembered who I was. But apparently, he did cos on Friday I was just standing in the hall chilling and he walks up and hugs me. Out of the blue. Hehe. If you've seen photographer Chris you know why I'm all giggly about it. :-D So I got the hug goodbye. And we all need to e-mail Creation to get them to get him to Burbank cos they haven't asked him yet! WTF? He's like the only one that knows what he's doing. So, y'all get on that if you don't mind. :-)
Well, I think that's it. If you have any questions about anything feel free to ask and I'll try to remember. Is it November yet??
First off, pics are here. There's really not a lot, but I've found that when I am taking pics, I'm not completely paying attention to what they're saying. Which is what I'd rather do. So, yeah. Plus I was kinda far, so I'm sure there will be better pics from other people out there.
