So, I'm kinda ticked at Wyndham hotels right now. That's where the Stargate convention is. So, each year I've booked a room using their "web exclusive" rates, meaning the room cannot be canceled and your credit card is charged immediately, as opposed to after the stay. I booked the room on June 9th. Received e-mail with the confirmation information and another note on there that the credit card will be charged THAT SAME DAY. Now, here's where it may fall apart slightly. We didn't really look over the credit card statement for the next month to notice that I had not actually been charged. No, that surprise came when we get the next month and it's about $500 higher than we were expecting. Why? Wyndham didn't charge me until after we'd completed out stay. Now to me, that is a violation of the terms and conditions that I had agreed to upon booking the room. Why should I have to pay for their fuck up? Right? :-)

No you shouldn't have to pay for it. You have the confimation from the original reservation. That should be enough to get it fixed.

But it's not like I was double charged. Just not charged within the original terms. Would that make any difference?

Nope. Shouldn't make a difference. The agreement was for a certain amount. Not your fault they didn't charge when they should have. I'd call the number on the confirmation and dispute it.

Will do. Will also have to discuss with hubby as I think the credit card may have already been paid. We might have to see about disputing it with them.

You should definitely not pay it! You got written confirmation that you would charged on the same day of the confirmation. Nope definitely should not pay. Take a copy of the confirmation and send it to them with a nice polite letter explaining why you are not going to pay for their fuck up.

We'll probably have to dispute with the CC at this point since it has been "paid." We'll see what happens...

Hotel charges

I think the only thing that you can really legitimately dispute is if the currently charged amount was not the same as what was supposed to have been charged back in June.

If the August charge turns out to be more, then you are entitled to get the difference back. If it is less, then you win!

But just because the rate was charged now rather than back then, I don't think you will win this one.

Just my 3 cents. : )

It's not YOUR fault they took so long to charge your credit card - whether you paid the balance in full on the card or not is irrelevant. I say you're entitled to a refund, and I hope if you rang them and politely explained what happened you'd get your money back no arguing...

Not sure how consumer law works in the US, but in New Zealand if you advertise something at one price, and then charge it at a different price, you are in breach of the Fair Trading Act and can be prosecuted under it. I would go to the credit card company with your email confirmation and get them to reverse the transaction, then ask the hotel to re-bill you correctly.

Well, they didn't charge me a different price. The amount is correct and in agreement with the price that I agreed to upon booking. It's the timing of being charged that I'm disputing.

Ah, well that's different, then. You did use the service, so you have to pay for it. If they charged you late, then you've had the money sitting in your bank account for an extra month, which I'd see as a bonus ;O) Some responsibility does fall on you to make sure that when you paid the credit card bill, you were aware of what was on it. If a charge you were expecting was missing, then putting aside the money to cover it for the next bill would have been prudent. Having worked for a bank in the past, I don't think that in this case you'll have any recourse, sorry!

Send them the e-mail and copy of your credit card statement and then raise some hell. There is no way you should have to pay the extra amount.

See, that's the thing. There is no additional amount. I didn't get charged twice, just a month and a half late.
