Really Random March Madness Question

Does anyone know how the brackets are determined? I've tried googling, but have really bad google-fu. I have this idea for a little fandom-ish project thing and need to figure something like that out. I have the rankings, I just need to figure out how to match them all up....

The sport calls them "brackets", but it's just a term used for "Here are all the teams that have made it to the playoffs. Pick the ones you think will make it to the final four teams." And then the gambling starts.

See, that's all it is. It's nothing more than the line-up for the playoffs, and with so many teams, it's a long list of contenders, which you'll find at the NCAA website (http://www.ncaa.com/). They'll have the stuff you need there. ;)
