Season 3, No Rest For The Wicked. As Dean is getting closer to being dragged to hell, he's able to start seeing through the "veil" and can see the demons inside people. Well, near the beginning of the episode, he looks up at Sam and Sam's face goes all freaky. Why would it do that unless there was some kind of demon-y thing to make Dean see that? And yes, there was the demon blood from when he was a baby. But that was a teeny-tiny drop 25 years ago. I would think there needs to be something more there for this to happen.

Thoughts? Yes? No?

Hm...I'm starting to believe that all the YED did was mark the babies with his blood, to give him an 'in' or at the very least to let him know who they were when they were grown. Kinda like how scientists tag animals they are studying. I think that those special kids all had it inside them, just that somehow YED unlocked their potential by bringing it to their attention somehow.

Or something :)

That has nothing to do with it, I think. If you rewatch Crossroad Blues, that was one of the symptoms the other hellbound people experienced...happened to both the doctor woman and the guy they saved.

Hmm... I think I'll have to do that. I was just going through some vids to find something and they had that scene with Sam in there and it was like LIGHTBULB!! But maybe not.... LOL

Right. I agree with that.

Which is what made me think drinking the demon blood is what caused Dean to see whatever he saw. But see wraith's post below...

Yeah, that's what I thought - I seemed to remember that it was a symptom but couldn't remember where I saw/heard it.

I would think there needs to be something more there for this to happen.

I disagree. And I point to two things to back that up: (1) Ruby in the S4 finale says that Dumbo didn't need the feather, that he had the powers inside him all along and (2) the psychic kids back in S2 - Eva, Jake, Andy, et al. - didn't need to drink demon blood to use their powers, they just had to let it happen (I believe Ava said it felt like flipping a switch).

So, I think that single drop from 25 years ago was enough. I think it wasn't the source of the power so much as the switch placed inside him.

I think what Dean was seeing as the veil was being lifted was all of Sam's as-yet-untapped demonic power, there, lurking beneath the surface, waiting to be switched on.

I just rewatched the entire series with yet another new convert friend this past week, and yeah--the whole freaky head thing was just a symptom. Wraith is right about Crossroad Blues.

It wasn't from blood drinking. That sort of hallucination is a side effect from the veil. Sam didn't start that till after Dean went to hell.
