Thursday we are having a company outing at a local race track. All morning, I've been getting e-mails about if we're going to send directions to everyone on how to get there. Can people not google map it themselves? Really? It's not that hard. You are all adults.

The best part is, for major destinations like that you don't even need to plug in the address if you use Google Maps. You can just put in the name of the place and it provides directions.

You just Google "Arlington Park" and the first result is directions! I get that, yes, we'll need to tell people where to go once they get there, but do we really need to tell them how to get there?

well in all honesty, getting maps off the internet can prove to be frustrating. they either aren't clear, or take you some abserd way. *curses mapquest*

Yes, mapquest is evil. This is why I only use Google Maps.

Aw, it's so cute when you think people are smart and know how to use a browser. ;)

This is true....

But still there should be at least 1 person for every 10 that could figure it out. Right? :-P

HAHA yeah, that's about the right ratio around here.
We don't have a lot of, um, computer-oriented people. They're very used to paper...

That they are. I think I have good directions written up. I'll have to show you tomorrow, see what you think.

I have not used mapquest before.

I tend to use Wises for NZ roads. Not prefect but at least it usually gets me there.

There are plenty of mapping sites people can use. And seriously, you google the place we're going and the first thing that pops up is the directions!

I don't know. I always hated it in the last few years when people would just give you an address and expect you to Mapquest it yourself. Mapquest is often wrong in this area, and it doesn't always say which side something is on--right or left. It also doesn't always give the best route, even if it's the shortest. It also doesn't tell you what is near the place you are going--is there a Burger King on the corner? Is it across the street from a big bank? Or whatever. That kind of thing drove me nuts.

Now I have a GPS and that's much better, but it still sometimes takes me to the wrong place and/or I end up in the right lane on a street with maybe six lanes on each side, and I have to make a left-hand turn. Not gonna happen. I end up having to go past my turn and then make a U-turn and so on... It's so annoying. That happens a lot. The last time I used the GPS for a doctor appointment, where the GPS said the building was--there was no building there. It was a big warehouse. I remembered the receptionist saying something about Tower 1, 2, or 3, but not which one--so I drove past a bunch more buildings until I saw the tall buildings. So...we went inside one building, got out of the elevator on every floor, and...um...wrong building. I ended up having to call the doctor's office and ask them again which building, which floor, which way to go inside the building, etc. We ended up having to walk all the way around the building to the back of the other building. It was lucky we had enough time so that we weren't late, but it was annoying--and hot! *g*

I do think it would be a lot simpler if people just gave out directions. heh But maybe that's just me. I just would rather have someone's personal directions with landmarks to look for than the generic directions of Mapquest, GoogleMaps, or even my GPS.
