Pondering for my SPN friends

switch842So, in my preparations for my 100 Supernatural icons, I was attempting to track down flat, black & white images of the boy's tattoos and a devil's trap to use as possible textures/adornments. And I found this image of the tat:

Very nice, right? However, something is bugging me about it - the pentagram and surrounding circle are not connected. It's broken up into segments. Shouldn't it be all connected to be the most effective? I mean, the surrounding "flames" are one solid piece, but the pentagram seems like it would be the most important part of the design and the most protective part of it.
So, am I weird? Is it just me? Does it seem odd to anyone else?
