I think I need to calibrate the monitor on my laptop. The brightness/contrast are just off and it's starting to get a little annoying. But I can't even find where that would be. Help?

Well, it depends on the type of laptop you have for exactly where the settings would be, but usually you can find a setting for it in the control panel. Start > Control or Start > Settings > Control Panel. What brand of laptop is it?

Dell Inspiron 9300. I tried googling it, but I apparently have the most inept google-fu ever cos I got nothing.

I tried looking in the control panel, but there's no "monitor" option and the display interface just brings up the standard stuff.

Well, I'm not sure about the contrast, but if it's a Dell you should be able to adjust the brightness by pressing FN and the Up and Down arrow keys. :)

Yes, I did figure that out. But it really is the contrast that I need to fiddle with.

I may have found something with my google-fu. Try this:

-Press the "F8" key which is located in the top row of keys on your Dell laptop.
-Use the down arrow key while holding the "F8" key to adjust the contrast lower. This will darken your display.
-Use the up arrow key while holding the "F8" key to adjust the contrast higher. This will lighten your display.

*crosses fingers*

I did a little more googling and I think I actually need an external program to do what I want. I found one to try. We'll see how that goes...

There seems to be a technical manual on it here, but it won't let me look because it knows I don't have that computer. *sigh*

Sorry. :(
I don't get the whole part where they don't let you even LOOK at it if you have Vista.

That's OK. I guess I will have to live with my monitor as is. *shrug*
