So, with the news yesterday (though not official) that Supernatural has been renewed for a sixth season, I've been thinking about what might happen during it.

Like a lot of people, I've pretty much been assuming that season 5 will end with Sam and Dean killing Lucifer. It seems to be leading that direction, anyway. But, what if it doesn't? What if the end of season 5 is Sam and/or Dean saying yes to Lucifer/Michael? Then season 6 could deal with all the fallout from that.

Does anyone remember in The End, what the date was that Sam gave in? Was it March or May? Cos, if it's May, that could coincide with the season finale and wouldn't that be a way to go out....

fans would feel as if they were dragging the whole thing out

This is true. But if they do end the apocalypse this season, then what the hell are they going to do in season 6?

The news said Kripke says he's not out of ideas, so...I mean hey, the angels caught us off guard, so odds are we're not going to have any idea what he's going to do with season 6 until he does it. I'm really hoping they 'do' end the apocalypse this season, because seriously...I wanna see what comes next. :P

I've heard a theory that they'd kinda go back to basics and make it almost like season 1, back to the urban legends type stuff. Would be interesting to see how they'd pull that off, if that is the route they're going. But after how big things have been these past 2 seasons (and especially this one)?

Yeah, I've heard that, too. But I think that one is really just fan speculation. Because, while it would be interesting, there's gotta be a lot of bad stuff left after the apocalypse is over, it would almost feel a but like a letdown? Or something?

It's probably mostly fan speculation. I thought I read an interview Kripke did some months back where he mentioned that was one of the things they could do. But he just mentioned it in passing. I think it'd feel like a letdown to a lot of people unless they could try to make it seem big in some way... maybe have some other menace lurking around.
