The more I use Windows 7
May. 9th, 2010 12:08 pmThe dumber I find it. It is in no way this HUGE improvement over XP. There are actually lots of things that are much dumber and counterintuitive than how they were in XP. And Media Player 12?? DUMBEST FUCKING THING EVER. There is no "Edit Playlist" feature. Seriously? I can't edit a playlist after I make it? Well, I can. I just have to open the playlist, start to play it in order to get it to load in the "Navigation Panel." Oh, and there's a fucking AUTOPLAY function built in somewhere so that when I add a file to a playlist it just starts playing it! Did I tell you to play it? NO! GAH!! Soooooo stupid. Seriously. Give me my damn XP back. Fuckers.

Date: 2010-05-09 05:25 pm (UTC)I've finished installed the new Ubuntu on my desktop. I'm going to work on transferring myself over to that and use my laptop less and less. My hatred for Microsoft just keeps growing.

Date: 2010-05-09 06:09 pm (UTC)Like, "I'm a simpleton. I have no idea how to manually resize windows. So I complained to Microsoft. They made this great feature and fucked up everything else. Windows 7 was my idea." And now it all makes sense...

Date: 2010-05-10 01:05 am (UTC)I loved Adobe Premiere. But when my Windows XP computer was failing, I installed my first ever Ubuntu, a GNU/Linux operating system. The poorest part of a Linux O/S is that it isn't very good in regards to graphics, especially editing, so I could no longer use Adobe. There is an emulator I could use, but even through that, Adobe would not work. Linux versions, usually good in other departments, were not worth the effort of a single-click install.
When I got my laptop (originally with Vista but soon after "upgraded" to Windows 7) I wanted a new version, but the best I could find was Ulead, which is put out by Corel. I can't figure it out because it wasn't what I was using before. I hate it actually, and can't make anything of it.
Now that I've installed the new Ubuntu on my refurbished desktop I've found out it comes with a video editor that has rave reviews. I'm hoping it will work but have yet to look into it. If it doesn't, I'm hoping someone has created a hack to make Adobe work. If it doesn't, I have to toss my vid bunnies into the fire. Or pass them on to someone else. Because I won't be able to do anything ever again. And I hate that.

Date: 2010-05-10 01:45 am (UTC)I think my biggest problem with Ulead is the lack of audio wave visualization. I don't really have an ear for music so I kind of need that but Ulead doesn't show it, so it scares me to try to dive into using it.

Date: 2010-05-09 05:34 pm (UTC)And the more I hear about Windows 7, the more I don't like it...plus I'd really like to smack the people in the commercials. Almost sounds like they didn't work all the bugs out before they released it.

Date: 2010-05-09 09:49 pm (UTC)Is Windows 7 why your old vidding software won't work? If so, if you have an XP disc from your older computer, perhaps you could reformat the new lappy with it, and then it might work again.
Oh, have you tried using Windows Movie Maker? I hear it's unstable and buggy, and you have to edit in a linear fashion, but it does split your clips into smaller sections like you want.

Date: 2010-05-10 01:23 am (UTC)Sadly, Windows 7 has nothing to do with the vidding software issue. I did take a look at WMM and that is just...I don't even know. There was no timeline. I could find no place to drag my clips into. I could edit the clips. But that was it. How does that even work?

Date: 2010-05-10 07:59 am (UTC)WMM - I've not used it myself, other than to convert my vids to .wmv files (because it has a huge range of compression options) but I know people who make some pretty good vids on it. I have no idea how, though, LOL. I really hope you find something that works for you. It'd be a terrible shame if you had to give it all up.
