So, I actually liked it...

And I keep wanting to call this ep "Exile on Main Stream" after the Matchbox 20 album. Anyway....
I'm probably going to be one of the few and say that I liked this episode. It was a good set up for the rest of the season. I'm really interested to find out what pulled Sam and Samuel out. Now that I type that, wouldn't it be funny if only one of them was supposed to come back, but because they have the same name there was a mix up? LOL
So, OK. Random supernatural creatures popping up everywhere. Old creatures acting all wacky. It seems the apocalypse did some very strange things...
I did actually gasp (for reals) when I saw Frederic Lehne's name in the opening credits. I was like, "YELLOW EYES IS BACK?!?!?! WE GET GRANDPA AND YELLOW EYES IN THE SAME EP?!?! *FLAIL*"
There is one little thing sort of niggling at me, though. So, Dean never wanted to go to Lisa? He didn't really want the normal apple pie life TPTB had been building up? And now that he has a chance to get out, he's gonna stay anyway? I'm a little confused....
Oh! Corin! Say what you want, I like the man and am very happy to have him back on my TV. He didn't have much to do this week, but I can't wait to see what happens. And WTF they needed that Djinn for....

I'm curious why they wanted the Djinn too.

Date: 2010-09-25 03:13 am (UTC)That whole thing with Dean confused me, too. You could tell he wasn't really living the whole apple pie life, but then in the end decides to stay. I guess that vision from the Djinn showing them meeting the same fate as that of the Winchester family was the thing that did it? Still kinda confuses me....
Yay Corin! As soon as he popped onto the screen I went "JONAS!!" ;D I'm clueless about the Djinn thing, too. The only thing I thought of was how at the beginning Sam told Dean that Grandpa Sam had a cure or antidote for the Djinn attacks. Maybe he needed it to get its serum for the cure? Hmmm...

Date: 2010-09-26 04:45 am (UTC)He DOES want it. But he knows in his heart, he can never truly have it. People cope with that sort of thing by convincing themselves that they didn't really want it after all (sour grapes/fox story, cognitive dissonance). He wants a whole family, including his brother. So he's sort of confused, too. He feels the need to protect Lisa, and she's damned if he stays and damned if he leaves (so he feels). He would rather be there to protect her than have her die and he wonders if he could have saved her (and the kid) if he was there.
That's my take. =)
I sort of liked the ep as a whole, but I'm not convinced it isn't a dream yet. There were some odd things about it (maybe due to cutting for time?) that I can't put my finger on.
