SPN Chicago Con 2010
Oct. 12th, 2010 04:10 pmSo, here's my report. This is going to mainly be general impressions and any specifics I might remember. Check out my previous post for audio files or the
spnnewsletter for better report and pictures. There's also the Super Wiki. Photo Ops are also in here. If you were in the pic with me, don't worry, I have obscured your face so no one will know who you are. :-)
Friday
Got there a little early on Friday so I could make sure to get a Jensen autograph ticket for a friend of mine. I apparently did not need to worry as there was like no one there. Oddly empty when I showed up. So, got registered then sat my ass in the lobby with Richard Castle's newest book and waited for everyone else to show up. ;-)
nikki_dichotomy got there first and we went in for Matt Cohen's panel while we waited for
brihana25 and
squigglysarah to get into town. I'd been kind of excited to see Matt's panel. I had heard good things about his appearance in Vancouver and he seemed like a great guy. I was not disappointed. He is one very entertaining young man. Sort of an attention whore, but in a good way if that's possible. He's just so charming and witty and exuberant that you just want to keep watching to see what he's going to do next.
Some highlights:
MATT PHOTO OP (I'm taller than Daddy Winchester!! This is weird!!)
After Matt was Richard Speight, Jr. He is awesome. He was here last year and is just such a hoot. First thing after he gets on stage is hop down and make his way back to the Gen Admit section since we're the fans that really count. Or something like that... :-) And there was this girl back there from England who was there with some friends, but they were up in Gold. He grabbed her hand and dragged her up to where her friends were sitting and made them make room for her. It was awesome.
Richard is now also a spokesperson for Pepsi Max (commercial on youtube if you haven't seen it). So, he kept stopping and going "Man! It's hot up here! I'm thirsty." Then turning sideways and drinking from his Pepsi. Then he took off the long sleeve shirt he was wearing to reveal a Pepsi football jersey. LOL Then a bit later, under that was a Pepsi t-shirt. Heh. Blatant product placement. Love it! He ended up autographing the jersey and having Creation auction it later for charity which was really cool.
RICHARD PHOTO OP 1 / RICHARD PHOTO OP 2
Then later that evening was karaoke. I thought it would be as awkward as the SG con since it was back in the Q&A room. There was also a note in the schedule that Gold & Preferred patrons should sit in their assigned seat for the evening. Here's where it became radically different: Richard & Matt were MC-ing. Richard came on stage and said (more or less) "Fuck this. Get these chairs out of the way and everyone get your ass up front!" So, they did. They cleared the first several rows of chairs out of the middle and became a giant mosh pit of awesomeness!! Sadly, I was only able to stay for half an hour or so since I still had to drive home, but from how it started and what I've heard of the rest of the night, it was a kick ass time. Wish I could have been there to see it all. It was also a different company than the SG con and they had a MUCH better song selection and general set-up. So, thumbs up. :-)
Saturday
I got there a little later Saturday morning, so I missed Frederic Lehne's panel. So, first panel of the day was Aldis Hudge. LOVE him! he talked about Leverage quite a bit, since that's his thing now. If he could have Jake come back, he would like to see him come back as a full-on demon with Yellow Eyes to mess with the boys some more. I could see that happening. Maybe bring back all the special kids. Who knows what get let out during the apocalypse?
Oh! Funny thing - during Matt's panel on Friday, someone asked if he knew how to jerk. Which is apparently some kind of dance move. He did not. She tried to show him, but it was just awkward white boy dancing. LOL Then he said we shoulod ask Aldis since he is a good dancer. He heard about this before hand and first thing when his panel started, he called out Matt to come down for a dance-off or whatever. So, security went and dragged Matt's ass out of bed! More awkward white boy dancing and Aldis doing something... Not sure if it was actually jerking or what. But, anyway. That was fun.
Aldis is also a watch designer. He just got his first design patented and it should be going into production soon! I can't wait to see it. I have a bit of a thing for watches....
Then Matt came on stage for his second panel. It was a lot of rehashing of Friday's panel. Which was fine. It was still fun and entertaining. He loves sugar and candy. Cake Boss is his favorite show. Which, Ace of Cakes is better by far. ;-)
After Matt was the amazing Mark Sheppard. He really is one of my favorite con guests ever. He's so good at story-telling. He won't just answer the question with short little answers. And he's funny, but not in an overwhelming way like Jared, for example, can sometimes be. If the question calls for it, he'll answer with a little sense of humor, but he'll be serious, too. So, yeah. If Mark comes to a con near you, go see him. You won't be disappointed.
MARK PHOTO OP
Sunday
THE BIG DAY
We started with JARED'S PHOTO OP. *sigh* ..... Sorry. Where was I? LOL So, yes. Jared. Very nice. Very tall. Smells lovely. And he smiled and winked and called me Sweetie at me as I left and said "Thank you". I'm sure he was saying that to everyone, but when it's directed at you it's a little knee-shaky. Those dimples have the power to turn anyone into a 12 year old girl. LOL
Then,
brihana25 said we were all getting dragged into her Jensen photo op. There was only going to be 4 of us, but sadly they said only 2 people. :-( So, Bri dragged me in with her. Oh, darn! JENSEN PHOTO OP :-D
Then came THE PANEL!! It was going to be Misha, Jared & Misha for a little bit, then Jared. Well, we started out OK. Misha came on and was his usual wacky self. Then Jared joined him and they were even wackier. Then Jensen crashed! Yay! I knew he would. LOL So, I was standing on the one side to try and get to ask Jared a question. I'm maybe 4 or 5 people back from the microphone, facing the stage. For some reason, the line is like in the middle of the space between the wall & the chairs instead of flat up against the wall like they usually make us do. So, out of the corner of my eye, I see this mass of people dressed in black coming down against the side by the wall. I look surreptitiously cos I'm curious like that and oh! Hey, Jensen! LOL The girl who was at the microphone kinda freaks out cos he pretty much tapped her on the shoulder and "Kanye Wested" her as she said later. I totally can't remember what he asked, but there's video all over youtube. It was funny, though. So, he then joined them on stage and it was the three of them for the rest of the time.
I'm not even going to try and recap anything cos there's no way I could do it justice. So, check out the Super Wiki page for links to videos and recaps and transcripts, etc. That'll be so much better than me trying to recount anything. Sadly, I did not get to ask my question even though the panel ran half an hour late. :-( But that's OK. Cos I was there and witness to the awesomeness. :-)
The day was not yet over! We had autographs and then a couple more photo ops. Again, Bri is a big chicken (love ya!) and dragged me into her JARED & MISHA PHOTO OP. We were planning on lining up with the two of us in the middle so I could hold her hand, but as soon as I walked into the shot, Jared & Misha just like glomped around me. So, OK then. Smile! :-D
Then I had my MISHA PHOTO OP. You may remember a couple months ago, I posted about this cute Castiel onesie that I had bought. Misha agreed that it was the cutest thing ever. :-) Interesting note, for some reason neither
crichiel nor I have our arms around Misha. They are awkwardly being held behind our backs. Hehe. After the picture had been taken, Misha turned around and started dancing with Martouf and didn't want to give him back! I was like, "Hey! You have your own now, can I please have mine back?" LOL
And just a note, I did not thrust Martouf at anyone. Richard and Misha both asked if they could hold the little guy. And they were very sweet and it was very fun.
So, I think that's it. If you have any questions or anything, feel free to let me know. :-)

Oddly empty when I showed up. So, got registered then sat my ass in the lobby with Richard Castle's newest book and waited for everyone else to show up. ;-)
Some highlights:
- He wants to play Superman in the new reboot that Zack Snyder is directing. I think he could be awesome. I believe there is a group/movement/whatever on Facebook to get this started. Y'all should check it out.
- If he could play any other character, it would be young Mary.
- If he could play any monster, it would be a shapeshifter that turns into Marilyn Monroe who decapitates people with her skirt while twirling. And yes, he did actually twirl.
- He does have (at least) one tattoo. That was my question and apparently NO ONE KNOW that he has it. Meaning manager, publicist, etc. He just can't lie to the fans. LOL Anyway, the tattoo he described is one large black & white piece on his right hip/thigh area. It's a very personal piece that he designed and gets added to whenever something awesome/significant happens.
- He is super freaked out about spiders. Here is a link to youtube from Saturday of his spider story. It's pretty hilarious.
