I had an appointment today with periodontist to see about getting a gum graft done. The gum is pretty much completely receded on one of my front teeth and he found two more on the side that are getting bad and will probably need grafts in the next couple years. It's like a $5000 procedure. DAMN. I mean, insurance should cover some of it, but the way the office works, we pay them upfront and then wait for insurance to reimburse us, not them. Between that, the multiple times I've had braces and the jaw surgery from a couple years ago, my mouth will have sucked up more money that anything else. Urgh.

So, gotta talk with the hubby when he gets home and figure out what he wants to do. We need to get in touch with the insurance company for sure and see what they have to say. If that doesn't work, the office can submit a predetermination request and go that route, but that can take 6 weeks. So, yeah. Fun times. :-P

Yeah. Unfortunately, this isn't really something I just can't do cos I can't afford it. At some point, it will need to be done and in the future it could be worse. So, it's mostly going to come down to what insurance is going to cover and how quickly we might be able to expect reimbursement. :-P

I had this surgery done in March, went to a dental school in KC and they did a great job for half the price. Call me if you have any questions and if you can get knocked out for the procedure or break up the graftings do so. Any other questions just let me know!I also think I have spent more money on my teeth and my body in general than my car is worth, LOL.

Thanks! I will definitely let you know if I have questions. Probably won't be getting sedated as that's an extra $500 that insurance definitely won't cover. So, it'll be local anesthetic and my mp3 player. ;-)

But I figure if I can get through the jaw surgery, I can get through this.

Well not to scare you but I got local and tried my iPod and I was in the chair for almost 3 hours and was crying at the end of it. It was awful. And they say the worst part is the roof of your mouth healing but actually the roof of my mouth healed great it was the front, because I had both incisors grafted, that was the worst. I was swollen up to my sinuses for like a week. So yeah, I think it would have been better to do them one at a time....
