What if Nate has liver cancer or some other sort of terminal illness?

Like, in the season premiere at the end, the scene with Hardison and that scene with Eliot this week, he seems to be setting something up for if/when he's no longer part of the team. So, what if he's dying?

Hmm....

Huh, I hadn't considered that. My theory has been that Nate is the most visible component of the team, being the brains, so if retribution or the law comes down, it will be on him, so he's planning a contingency for the team should he be taken out. But my dislike for this is that he did the self-sacrifice play already in the S2 finale, where he gave himself up for the team's safety AND was shot. And they did the former villain returning to take revenge thing as well with Dubenich (and it was glorious).

Considering the way he drinks, it wouldn't be surprising if he has some sort of liver disease. It hasn't been done by the show so they're not repeating themselves. But I'm generally not a big fan of Sekrit Illness storylines.

It could be something else entirely.

That was my initial thought, too, with the self-sacrificing thing but the illness thing sort of just hit me out of nowhere cos it kind of seems like he's checking things off his list, if that makes sense? Like, when he came back he had apparently been off to see the world (Ireland?) and getting things right with Sophie, etc. It really seems like they're setting up some sort of scenario where Nate is just out of the picture. Whether it's illness or he just leaves or turns himself in or whatever. But, whatever it is, it's gonna be epic.

ETA: Oo. Anonymous commenter on John's blog makes an interesting analysis:
That last exchange between Nate and Eliot has me thinking. At the end of season 4, Nate said he had big plans and now it seems, at least this time, he tried to get Eliot to think more like a grifter. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks Nate's big plan has all five of our Leverage crew running crews of their own in an effort to pull off the biggest con in history and take down the biggest villain ever. What's bigger than one crew conning someone? 5 crews conning someone? ......

Both Devlin and Rogers have said that they wanna go out with the show on top. And that five seasons is a very good run for a show. Rogers has apparently made a comment in his blog about how evil they will be to the team this season (i haven't been reading but you apparently have) so I'm kind worried about what's going down...

Yeah. I'm sure whatever it is that's gonna go down is gonna make me a wreck. Ugh...

Ugh if he is going away (and or the show is going away) I will literally have NO shows left to watch anymore most likely. (One of my other shows keeps doing the "only X episodes until it ALL ends" BS that leads me to believe they are going away)

I want more Leverage!

Also SO torn on everything this season...it seems a bit...disjointed to me

I'm getting nervous about Leverage ending, too. I don't want it to, either, but I am very nervous right now.....

Ooh, that's a good point, like Nate is checking things off his bucket list. I hadn't thought of it that way. Mostly I've just been glad that he seems to have dropped his issues, and I figure his shift in attitude is because he got some perspective and closure. But it can definitely be read as him making peace. Gargh! So hard to tell right now just what really is going on!
