Looks like I'll be leaving LJ permanently very soon

With the release of the Friends Page redesign, LJ will lose all functionality for how I and probably 99.999999% of the people I follow use LJ. If this does indeed go live (and it probably will despite EVERY comment on that post being a negative DO NOT WANT), I will be gone. I will not be updating my LJ. I will let all my paid time and add-ons expire. This most likely means my icon and graphic posts will soon appear empty as I paid to have extra storage space for such things. I am working on an independent solution to that (Coppermine Gallery), but as hubby and I do not have a lot of experience with actually running a service like that, it's taking some time. I do have a dreamwidth (same username) and will begin using that. I also have an AO3 account for my fics and a YouTube for my videos.

I will be sad to leave the communities here, but I hope they can all find a new home on Dreamwidth.

Well, that's something. Still not enough to get me to stay, though. I don't use LJ the same way I use Tumblr. I don't want LJ to look/function like Tumblr. I like LJ because it's LJ. Right now, they're just taking away everything that made this site unique and different from everything. There is absolutely no reason to stay anymore.

They have really progressively gotten worse and worse. They continually suck at giving a shit about their non-Russian users, and it's like, fine, apparently the Russian users are the majority, but the rest of us aren't dead. They never improve shit, break things that used to work, and, yeah, it just comes down to them not giving a flying fuck. It's clear for a long while now that paid users are NOT the primary source of their revenue. So I don't plan to give them any more of my money. What's the point. The way they keep trying to be Facebook and Tumblr is all kinds of epic fail. They just don't get that people like LJ for being LJ, for what it is.

Anyway, I'll probably start looking into backing up my LJ, and as much as I don't want to, I'll probably end up migrating over to Dreamwidth, too. Sigh. There's always a platform shift after a certain number of years, and I suppose it's time for another one.

The sucky thing is I JUST reupped my userpics and storage space last week. UGH. I think most people will end up over at DW. It's really easy to back up everything over there (they do it for you!). I just wish more of the comms that I actually participated in would move so I can keep up with everything. I have a feeling everyone is going to be very out of touch for awhile until things get settled back down.

I moved to DW just over a year ago and I don't regret it at all. I got all my user pics loaded, resurrected my mood theme, which had stopped working at LJ, and set auto cross-posting to LJ. Now I only follow friends who don't have DW at LJ, and follow all the others at DW. It's a bit of a pain having to follow two f-lists but its a small inconvenience compared to all the crap I had to deal with from LJ.

I'm sure over the next couple weeks I'll be getting things like that set-up over on my DW. At some point, I imagine I'll stop posting here entirely and just move 100% to DW. It's gonna suck losing some of the comms and stuff, but, oh well.... :-(

The main comms I follow have a dual presence, which isn't an issue, I just follow the DW feed, but if I want to see comments to posts in each, that can be a pain. Doesn't happen often, though. Hopefully everything will end up over at DW and normal service will be resumed :0)

Sadly, right now, I'm not seeing the same comm presence with Glee on DW and that is my main fandom right now along with SPN. I haven't done much poking around for Supernatural stuff, but that's mostly just fic comms for me at the moment. So, yeah. This is gonna be weird....

Hopefully this latest debacle spurs a mass migration. Thankfully most of my LJ friends and the vidding comms I follow moved fairly early on, so it wasn't too much of a hardship to follow along. It's just that now I have to check two sites since my f-list is split across both. What would be really cool is if you could get your LJ feed in your DW f-list. I wonder if they're working on that?

I think if you have a paid account you can create an RSS feed of your friends page. Not sure how RSS feeds work on DW, but that might be a start....

Whats the address for your DW page? LJ is the only way I keep in touch with what's going on in your life. I really need to get with it and get myself a DW account since you are not on FB and thats the only place I post about the shit going on in my life. I feel out of touch with you and I need to remedy that most definitely.
