switch842I was wandering around the 'net this morning and came across a fanfic page where the author had a QAF/Stargate crossover. Awesome! My two favorite fandoms in one. So, I copied it into Word so I could read it at work when I was bored and during lunch. And it started off really well. It was all greatly in character, excellent grammar and spelling.
And then it fell apart.... It was like whoever wrote it had their 12 year old sister take over. Suddenly, they were referring to the Asgard Freya. When just a few chapters before, we were talking to the Tok'ra Freya (which is correct). I'm guessing the Asgard they meant was Freyr and perhaps spellcheck changed it and they never caught it. Who knows. Oh! And there were British-isms all over the place - arse, holiday (as in going on holiday), etc. That has got to be my biggest pet peeve. I mean, if you see these shows in the UK, you see them with the original dialogue. They don't get redubbed. Therefore, you should know that we call those things in buildings that move you up and down ELEVATORS. LIFTS are something men would put in their shoes to make them taller. Oy.
Anyway.... I just got disappointed and couldn't even finish it. And I so wanted to! The plot was really, really good. But I just couldn't.
