Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Craig and Jennifer Taylor were sitting at their usual table in the dining room of their country club trying to enjoy a late lunch. However, that was proving difficult with all the stares and whispers that seemed to be directed at them. Craig had finally had enough.
“Let’s go, Jen,” he said. “This is ridiculous.”
Jennifer took one last look around and grabbed her purse before following Craig out to the lobby.
“Craig!”
The two turned to see Henry Mortinson approaching quickly.
“Henry,” Craig greeted. “What the hell is going on?”
“Did you see the paper today?” Henry asked.
“Of course.”
“Did you read the Arts section?”
“No. Why?”
“Go take a look – page 19.”
Twenty minutes later, the Taylors pulled into their driveway. As soon as they entered the house, they made their way to the kitchen and pulled out the Arts section that had previously been tossed aside. Turning to page 19, Jennifer let out a small cry as she saw the image in front of her. There in black and white was a picture of her baby boy in an advertisement for what appeared to be a gay porn film.
“What the hell is this?” Craig asked.
Jennifer just shrugged and shook her head. She was just happy her son was still in town. She had done everything she could to find him, but there had been no trace of him. It was like he had just disappeared.
“I don’t care, Craig,” she said. “All I know is that Justin is still in Pittsburgh and I intend to find him.”

Brian came downstairs after his shower, intent on grabbing some juice from the refrigerator. He glanced into the living room and saw Justin on the couch, bent over a notebook, his pencil flying over the paper. Curiosity got the best of him and he made a slight detour to pass by the couch. He’d seen Justin doodling before, but never really paid much attention. He paused just out of Justin’s line of sight and was very surprised to see his image on the page. And it was good, too. He must have started it last night. It was a profile picture of him sitting at the computer, his gaze focused on the screen. You could really see the focus in his eyes. He was impressed.
“You’re good at that,” he finally said.
Justin jumped, startled by Brian’s words. He quickly snapped the notebook shut, hoping Brian hadn’t gotten too good a look at it.
“Wh-What?” he stuttered.
“I said, you’re good at that. Do you do it often?”
“Um, sort of. Just when I’m nervous it kind of gives me something to focus on.”
“Well, keep it up,” Brian said. “Maybe one day you can get away from all this and be the next Andy Warhol.”
“Yeah, right,” Justin replied.
“Why not? Don’t you want to?”
“Well, yeah, I’d love to. I even applied to the Pittsburgh Institute of Fine Arts and they accepted me! They only accept 75 students a year. But, my dad…” he trailed off.
“Your dad what?”
“He wanted me to go to Dartmouth,” Justin explained. “Be a business man like him so I could take over the family business one day. No art for me. Art is for fairies, as he said. Sorry, I’m rambling.”
“That’s OK,” Brian said. “So, you must be pretty good if you got accepted into that little art school. You got any other sketches in that?”
“In here?” Justin asked, pointing to the notebook. “Oh, uh, no. Not really, anyway.”
He blushed as he tried to hide the notebook out of the way. Brian knew something was up and had to get his hands on it.
“Come on, let me see,” he said as he walked closer.
“No, really, there’s nothing to see,” he said, hiding the notebook behind his back.
“Well, I think you’re forgetting one important fact, Sunshine.”
“What’s that?”
“I’m faster than you.”
With that, he took off around the couch, behind Justin, and grabbed the notebook. He managed to make it back upstairs into the bedroom before Justin caught up and tackled him into the bed.
“Give it back!” he yelled.
“No,” Brian teased. “Finders keepers.”
“Brian…”
“Oh, come on. Just let me have a look. I’m sure all your work is magnificent.”
Justin finally sat back, defeated, and hid his head as Brian began to look through his sketches.
Brian slowly opened the notebook to the first page and saw himself. This first sketch was just his face, so it was hard to place where and when it had been done. The next page was also Brian. He was asleep in bed in this one, his face looking relaxed and peaceful in repose. He flipped through faster and saw that every page had a sketch of himself on it in some form.
“Justin,” he began.
“Yeah?” Justin whimpered.
“Why did you draw all these?” he asked sincerely.
Justin just shrugged.
“I’m not mad,” Brian explained. “Just curious. There must be better subjects you could study.”
“Not to me,” Justin said quietly. “You’re so perfect. I couldn’t help it. I did that first one right after I first met you. And then, I couldn’t stop.” He still wasn’t looking at Brian.
Brian wasn’t quite sure what to say or do. This really should have been creeping him out. It did kind of border on stalker-like behavior. But, since it was Justin, it was almost…sweet. Shit. Did he really just think that?
“Well, whatever your reason, they are very good. And I think you could have a great future ahead of you as an artist.” He sighed, knowing that Justin was destined for better things. “You should go to school, Justin. You don’t have to be stuck here, in this life. You deserve better than that.”
“But I don’t want that, I just want…” Justin abruptly stopped.
“What?” Brian asked. “What do you want?”
“You,” Justin said finally looking at Brian. “I just want you.”
“Justin…”
“I know what you’re going to say,” Justin interrupted, crawling into Brian’s lap. “And I don’t care. I don’t care what you do and that you fuck other guys and all that crap. I just know what I want and what I, what I feel.”
“Justin, you’re only 18. You’re too young to know what you want. Hell, I don’t even know what I want and I’m almost 30!”
“You are 30,” Justin reminded him.
“Thanks, twat,” he said. “There’s so much out there that you haven’t experienced yet that you should. When all this done, I want you to promise me that you’ll get away. You’ll go to school and become the most amazing fucking artist that ever lived.”
Justin took a moment to finally really look at Brian. He knew what Brian was saying and deep down, he knew Brian was right. He did deserve better than this. But so did Brian. He had so much potential that Justin knew if he could get Brian to realize it, he would do amazing things.
“I promise,” he said. “But I want you to promise me something.”
“I don’t make promises.”
“No, you don’t make promises you can’t keep. Which is why I want you to come with me,” he said. “Promise me that you’ll come. I do want to get out and see the world. But I don’t want to do it alone.”
Brian stared at Justin for a moment, amazed at the faith and trust this kid seemed to have in him.
“We’ll see,” is all he would say.

The day of the big premiere was finally here. Justin was so nervous he could hardly do more than shove his eggs around his plate at the diner.
“What’s the matter, sweetie?” Emmett asked.
“Huh? Oh, nothing,” Justin replied.
“You not eating is not nothing. What is it?”
Justin sighed as he put down his fork.
“It’s tonight. The premiere is going on and I’m just really nervous,” he explained. “What if it’s horrible? What if I’m horrible? I can’t believe I even did this.”
He put his head in his hands as he shoved the plate away. When had his life come to this? It wasn’t that he was ashamed. Not really. It was just…this was big. Like, really big. There were going to be lots of people there. And they were all going to be there for one thing – to watch Brian fuck his brains out. Oh god. This was going to be so bad.
“Oh, honey. Don’t you worry your pretty little head about it. Everything is going to be just fabulous. Brian always throws the best parties. And trust me, he wouldn’t be having the party if he didn’t think this was going to be a big, fat success. Speaking of, where is his majesty this morning?”
“Oh, he’s off getting things ready,” Justin said. “I probably won’t see him until tonight. He’s supposed to pick me up later.”
“See? Everything’s going to be fine!” Emmett exclaimed. “Now, why don’t we get out of here and have ourselves a fabulous day of pampering. I just got this new cucumber mask I’ve been dying to try out. I can give you a manicure, make you feel all better.”
“Thanks, Emmett. That’d be great,” Justin said.

This was it. Brian would be here any moment to pick up Justin and they would be on their way to his debut. He hoped he looked okay. He was just in dark wash jeans and a fitted light blue t-shirt. He didn’t need to dress up for this anything, right? It was a porn movie. It’s not like there’d be any newspapers covering this event.
He was pacing up and down the sidewalk, counting the seconds until Brian was supposed to be there. Brian was late. And Justin was getting more nervous with each minute that passed. What if Brian didn’t show? They’d hardly talked since that day at Brian’s place last week. Justin knew Brian was busy getting everything ready for the premiere, but there had only been that one phone call from Brian telling him when to be ready. Just as he was about to go back inside, he saw Brian’s Jeep peel around the corner. A smile broke out on his face as he ran to the curb and jumped into the car. He pressed a kiss to Brian’s cheek in greeting.
“Hey,” Brian said. He turned and looked at Justin for a moment before reaching out and pulling Justin in for a proper kiss hello.
“Hey,” Justin replied as he pulled back. That was better.
“You ready for this?”
“No,” Justin laughed. “But I guess it’s a bit too late for that, huh?”
“Don’t worry, Sunshine. You’ll be amazing.”
“So, um, what exactly is going to happen tonight?” Justin asked nervously. “Who all is going to be there?”
“Well, just about all of gay Pittsburgh will be there.” Oh, shit. “And there’ll be a screening of the movie then dancing, drinking and good ol’ time will be had by all.”
“Oh. Well, that doesn’t sound so bad. I’m not gonna have to, like, talk or anything, am I?”
“Not if you don’t want to. I’ll make a short introduction, of course. But other than that…”
“OK, good.”
They rode the rest of the way to Babylon in silence. He was fretting over the events that were to come and what had happened at Brian’s place a couple weeks ago. He did want to get out of the Pitts. He didn’t belong here, he knew that. He longed to move to New York. He’d been there with his family for vacation a couple times and had always loved all the bright lights, the hustle and bustle, the masses of people rushing everywhere. It was so exhilarating.
Brian didn’t belong here anymore than he did. He was much too big to be trapped in the Pitts. He never understood what it was that kept Brian here. He just knew that he wanted Brian to go with him. To experience New York together would be amazing.
“Let’s go to New York,” Justin said suddenly.
“What?” Brian asked.
“Tonight, after the premiere. Let’s just pack up and go and get the hell out of here.”
“I can’t do that, Justin. I have a company to run.”
“So, do it in New York. Or don’t. Just leave it all. You know Tony would be great and keep up with your standards. It’s just…you’re so much better than all this, Brian. So am I. We shouldn’t be stuck here because once upon a time someone told us we weren’t worth anything.”
“Justin,” Brian sighed.
“No,” Justin said. “It’s OK. Forget I said anything.”
They pulled up to Babylon a short time later and Justin eyes were wide open at the throngs of people that were waiting outside. He felt Brian’s eyes on his face but couldn’t look away from the massive crowd.
“Hey,” Brian said, sliding his hand behind Justin’s neck and bringing their foreheads together. “You’ll be great. You are great.” He kissed Justin deeply them, hoping to calm him some. It wouldn’t do any good to have the star of the show passing out from anxiety.
They got out of the car and slowly pushed their way through the crowd. It was difficult with Brian getting groped by every person they passed. They were almost to the stairs when Justin heard someone call his name. He looked in the direction he thought it came from.
“Mom?” he said, slowly walking towards her.
‘”Justin,” she called again. She closed the distance between them and pulled Justin into a hug. “You have no idea how happy I am to see you.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I want you to come home, honey. We all miss you. Molly won’t stop asking about you and your father…”
“What about Craig?” he asked. “He doesn’t want me home, does he?”
“Oh, Justin. It’s not like that. He still loves you and wants you home.”
“But not if I’m still some silly fag, right?”
“Don’t talk like that honey. He just…he doesn’t understand.”
“What’s there to understand? I’m gay, Mom. I like dick. I wanna get fucked by dick. I wanna suck dick. I like sucking dick. And I'm good at it, too.”
“He’s fucking fabulous at it,” Brian said coming up behind Justin.
Jennifer turned her nose up at Brian. “I know who you are, Mr. Kinney,” she sneered. “And I’ll have to ask you to keep away from my son.”
“I don’t think you can do that, Mrs. Taylor,” Brian replied. “You see, Justin is 18 and is free to do whatever he wants now.”
“But he’s my son.”
“Yes, and he’s my…” Brian paused. What was Justin? He didn’t do boyfriends, they weren’t partners. They were more like fuck buddies, but Brian was pretty sure Mrs. Taylor would have a coronary if she heard that. He looked down at Justin who stared back with open adoration in his eyes. “Well, he’s mine,” he decided. And that was true. Justin was his. Had been for some time, if he was honest with himself.
Justin, completely forgetting that his mother was standing two feet away, reached up and pulled Brian in for a passion filled kiss. Brian admitted Justin was his. While it wasn’t quite the declaration Justin had been hoping for, it was good enough.
“I see,” Jennifer said clearing her throat. “I suppose I should let you two get to your event. Take care of him,” she said to Brian.
She turned to walk away and Justin had a sudden moment of panic.
“Mom!” he called.
Jennifer turned back, hopeful that Justin had changed his mind. He stopped a few feet away, unsure of what to do.
“I’m, um, I’m moving to New York,” he said suddenly.
“New York? What’s in New York?” Jennifer asked.
“Art,” he replied. “I want to be an artist and I need to go somewhere else to do that.”
“So, you’re just going? All by yourself? What will you do for money? Art school is expensive.”
“I have some money coming to me from the, um, movie I did. And I can get loans to help with the rest.”
“And he won’t be alone,” Brian said, once more coming into their conversation.
“Oh,” Jennifer sighed. Her baby boy really was all grown up. She couldn’t keep him, anymore. “Will you…will you call me once in awhile? Let me know how you’re doing?”
“I’d like that,” Justin said.
“All right. I suppose that’s all I can ask. Take care of yourself, OK?”
“I will,” Justin said. He then surprised them both and reached out to give her one more hug. “I love you, Mom.”
“Oh, honey. I love you, too. Don’t forget that. Please don’t ever forget.”
“I won’t.” Justin pulled back slowly and wiped the few tears that had leaked away. “Well, um, we should get going. I’ll call you in a few days. We’ll be leaving soon.”
“OK. Thank you.”
With that, Brian and Justin turned and made their way into Babylon.
“So, I’m not going to New York alone, huh?” Justin asked.
“Well, it really wouldn’t do me any good to let you out of my sight at this point in time,” Brian explained. “After all, you are contractually obligated to make at least two more films.”
“Sure, Brian,” Justin teased. “I am so onto you.”
“What?”
“You so love me,” Justin said with a smile. “You want to hug me and kiss me and marry me.”
“Shut up, twat,” Brian said. “What did I tell you about quoting that dumbass movie to me?”
“I know. But it’s true.”
Brian just rolled his eyes and kissed Justin one more time. “Come on. Your audience awaits you.”
+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+
And we lived happily ever after. Well, not quite. Brian and I did move to New York; I got my GED and went to art school. I’m not completely famous yet, but my name is getting out there and my paintings have done well in the few group shows I’ve been a part of. Brian expanded Kinnetik Productions and is now a commercial producer. He makes the hottest spots you’ll see on TV. You know those “controversial” spots that always run during the Super Bowl? Yeah, that’s Brian. At first, clients were a little hesitant to get involved with someone who makes porn. But when they found out the built in customer base that the Kinnetik name brought, they all came running.
We also kept making the Brian and JT series of movies. They were too big of a hit to just stop. And with the money Brian is raking in from everything, we’ve been able to travel the world and shoot in some amazing places. That has also done more for my art than four years of art school ever could. Just being in Italy, Greece, France and Spain has provided so much inspiration, I can’t even tell you.
And while we have broken up at least a dozen times over the years, I think we’re finally at a place where we understand what each other needs from this “relationship” we have. It may not be as typical as everyone else, but what we have works for us. And that’s really all that matters, right?
