Tomorrow should be the day we decide the day

I think some of you might know this (the folks I know in real life, anyway), but I will be having jaw surgery soon. Very soon, hopefully. I am currently undergoing the third orthodontic treatment of my life. Had them when I was young, my ortho passed away, had them taken off. Got that put back on several years later since teeth went crooked again, everything seemed fine. Got a retainer, went off to college. Kinda stopped wearing the retainer and teeth went wonky again. Well, then I got engaged. And I was like, I need straight teeth for my wedding. I would like to be able to smile and be happy with myself on that day. So, my dentist recommended someone. Went to see him, very nice. Great guy. Discovered the root (haha!) of all my problems - my overbite was never properly fixed. So, what I thought was this one tooth sticking out on the side was not happening. My bottom lip was pushing on the top teeth ever so slightly, causing the ones in front to lean inwards. So the sticky-out tooth was actually in line. Well, since I'm an adult and all the muscles, etc are very firmly in place, the only way to correct this is to have my jaw broken and reset. So, I've been to see an oral surgeon several times and he's noted some specifics that needed to be done for the surgery to be successful. And, well, according to my ortho, that is all done. Eep!! So, tomorrow, hubby and I are going to see him again, hope he agrees that everything is in place and set a date for the surgery!! Which is good, cos we're going to Hawaii in August and I want this done before then! LOL So, yeah, my jaw will be wired shut for about a month. I'll be on a liquid diet. Which is why I've gained 10 pounds in the last 2 months. Hehe. So, anyway, keep your fingers crossed for me that everything goes well tomorrow. I want this done. I cannot remember not having braces. I want it over and I want to eat a whole apple and popcorn and all that crap you can't eat when you do have braces.

Oh! And my icon? Gale is back on TV!! Yay!! We saw him for about 30 seconds, but he'll be back next season on Desperate Housewives! Yay!!!!!!!!!

I used to do chairside assisting in ortho for what seems like a bazillion years. And we had more than a few undergo surgery to correct lower/upper jaw deficiencies, etc. It's amazing what can be done.

I had always thought, that if I had a ton of money with which to be philanthropic, I would offer orthodontia to adults.

Good luck with the consult. I'd be interested in hearing what the surgeon has to say.

And I forgot to add.... thanks for mentioning Gale. I wanted to see what he does in DH and totally forgot to followup with Tivo/VCR after I found out he was going to make a few appearances.

I'll try and catch him on ABC.com streaming.

I hope this really does fix all my problems. The other thing that I'm slightly nervous about is that my insurance isn't covering the surgery, so I have to go to the county hospital in Chicago. Since it's a teaching hospital, it's like super cheap. But you always hear horror stories of places like that, so I'm a little nervous about that. LOL

And Gale, literally, is only in the last 30 seconds of the show. But they're a very important 30 seconds. Just so ya know. :-)

*fingers crossed on the date* Be sure to let me know when you're having the surgery so I can text you and bug you...err...check on you and make sure you are recuperating well. As I obviously won't be bothering to call you...;-)

Yes, no phone for me for about a month. LOL That could be tricky. I'm already planning the message I'll be putting on my work phone.

Yes quite tricky. I mean from what I can remember about the guy who had his jaw broken in my dojo, he could talk, it was just a lot of indistinct mumbling for the most part. *shrug*

One of my mom's college friends had to have the same thing done, jaw broken, re-set and wired shut. She said it was the most effective diet she'd ever been on in her life. :P :D I'm sure you'll be fine at the teaching hospital--House works at one, remember? :D :D (((K))) Good luck.

She said it was the most effective diet she'd ever been on in her life.

That would be why my ortho was all "You have to gain weight first!" I've put on 10 pounds in the last two months... Plus I'll be smokin' when we go to Hawaii!! :-)
