switch842Yeah, that wasn't fun. It's gotten warm here the last couple days and rainy so pretty much all the snow has melted. The only stuff that's left at the moment are the huge mounds that the plows left behind. So that's been fine, except overnight and this morning the temperature dropped below freezing. Which means all the water that was on the roads, froze. Duh. But, it was really thin ice, so you couldn't really see it. And I'm going down this stretch of two-lane "country" road on my way to work. It's 45/50 mph back there. And since there's not much traffic with all the schools off for the holidays we're all going up to speed. There's a traffic light on the way and we all go to stop. Well, guess what? ICE!! So, yeah, my brakes are working, but I'm just sliding all over the place and come waaaaaaaaaay too close to the car in front of me. The car behind me has to actually swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid slamming into me at full speed. Luckily, sort of, I think, something had just happened up ahead and these two cars were up on either side of the shoulders and so the oncoming traffic, with a garbage truck in the lead, were moving really, really slowly. But, damn! It was way too scary. Really don't want to go through that again. *shudder*
