Is it possible...

...to hate a particular genre of music and like a certain artist of said genre?

Confusing, right?

Here's what I'm talking about. Those of you that know me better than others know that I hate (despise would actually NOT be too strong of a word to use) country music. Nails on a freaking chalk board, basically. However, see that guy in my icon? The lovely Christian Kane. Been a fan of his acting for awhile, thought I'd do some digging into his musical side. It's country. *sigh* But I think I like it? Maybe? I don't know. For some reason, this has me all . Cos I don't want to like it. Cos it's country. And country sucks. *Sigh* What the fuck am I supposed to do with this?!?!

I tend more to like a few random songs from genres I hate, but I can kinda see where you're coming from. And I totally feel the same about country (though I've never listened to CK). And my dad loves country *head/desk*

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
*head/desk with you*

Why must we be so picky? I guess I kind of feel the same about rap/R&B. While I'm not a fan, I also don't have the same overall hatred for it, and there are a few songs that I don't mind and will listen to on occasion. Perhaps I'll just deal with it for now.

I say just enjoy what you enjoy and don't worry about genre. Have you been listening to music from the band Kane as well not just the solo stuff? I blame that on Jensen. *sigh* ;) The man has pointed me to so many stuff that I never thought I would listen too. :D

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I think I have a couple songs from the band, just stuff I was able to track down on youtube. But I think I need to do some more hunting. See what else pops up.

[identity profile] brihana25.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Um... I have no advice whatsoever.

I just had to stop by and tell you that I literally just got back from the video store, where I rented Her Minor Thing.

And I thought the timing was rather cool.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! That's funny. It's sitting in my Netflix queue, too. :-)

[identity profile] kj-svala.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don`t know Christian Kane, and from what a friend told me who meet him, I`m not sure I want to know any of his muisc, Jensen or not.

Knowing this kinda stuff makes me step away from singer/music/bands, or actors, or whatever.

overall, listen to what you like, no matter the music genre.

I like Garth Brooks, I really do. I saw him live once, this was just awesome, and made me an even bigger fan than I was before. And I love bands like Rascal Flatt also. On the other side, I LOVE Nightiwsh, InFlames, Rammstein, aso, and these music genres reallly don`t fit. But I don`t care.

And you should not care also!

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Hm, interesting. Though, honestly, I tend to reserve judgments like that until after I've met someone myself. Not that I'm likely to, anyway. ;-)

OK! Fine! I won't care! :-P

[identity profile] mamagaea.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I hate country music too, but I really like some of the artists as people and their music but wouldn't own any. Randy Travis, specifically. I also dislike Hip-Hop generally speaking, but I love Missy Elliott. I'm sure there are plenty of other instances in people's musical likes and dislikes. You aren't alone.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent. Glad to hear I'm not insane.

[identity profile] maureen.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I would be hard pressed NOT to like anything Christian Kane did. And yes, it is possible to generally hate a style of music and have a few exceptions. I feel that way about rap.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. He does seem pretty awesome. :-)

[identity profile] chocolate-frapp.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I can't stand most country but I like Willie Nelson, figures I'd like the guy who wears braids and smokes pot. I like Johnny Cash too but I think he's his own damn category.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Johnny Cash is definitely his own category. That man is a legend.

[identity profile] erin-anderson.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the exact same way about country as you do (with the exception of good ole Garth Brooks and I blame my mother for that one) but I can see how occasionally a song can sneak in and grab you like that. I have a few misc country songs floating around my iPod that are not by the Garth man. In the end, who cares if you like one country singer? Pretty sure hell hasn't frozen over yet. *checks*

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Now, see, for me? Garth Brooks is the epitome of all that I hate about country. So, that's just weird to me... :-)

[identity profile] erin-anderson.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's okay. I still love you. (((HUGS)))

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, thanks. :-P

[identity profile] sgflutegirl.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fan of country music at all, but I do like Chris' music. I've got an acoustic Kane CD, which is basically just Chris and Steve singing some of their songs. I also have a few of Chris' songs that are going to be on his debut CD that hasn't been released yet.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you know Chris is also designing a line of women's lingerie? He did an interview recently where that was brought up. It just seems like such an odd thing to branch out into.... LOL

[identity profile] sgflutegirl.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Really?!! That is very odd.

[identity profile] gatehorse.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Liking country song or two isn't the end of the world. But then, country is just about all I listen to, so I'm inclined to say that you don't know what you're missing. :P

I do feel the same way about rap and hip hop that you do about country. I can't stand it.

Ooh, yeah. I don't like country music, but there are a few singers who are classified as "country" that wouldn't have been maybe back in the 70s. Like Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. Not country, but I bet if they were a new group today, they'd be a country group.

I checked into Christian Kane's music, too, and I recall liking it a bit. I don't really know his acting, much. He was in that movie with Ashton Kutcher and Brittney Murphey, IIRC. I looked into him, because I liked Steve Carlson and he and Christian Kane were also in a band together.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's had some supporting roles in a few pretty big movies. Have a couple waiting on my Netflix to get to.

I also found some of Steve's stuff in my Kane hunting and I have to say, I can't get behind that for some reason. *shrug* It's strange.

[identity profile] kittykat2305.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Country isn't so bad if you listen to some of the happier songs, I personally love Bryan White, Josh Turners Would you go with me is good and some of Gary Allens. But I know what you mean, it can be pretty bad, like all sad about their truck and stuff. If you ever want to listen to some of the songs I think are better let me know I have a few good country songs, the new stuff is shit but the stuff from like mid-late 90's is pretty good.

I like so much different music, but loathe rap and r&b oh and hip hop (is that even a genre anymore) But I like Will Smiths Miami and Eminems Without me. Then again I just made a cd that has a mix of showtunes, 80's 90's, alternative and punk.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a nice mix! I do have a pretty eclectic music taste. All the way from classical (band geek!) to big band/swing type stuff. I tend to blame my varied musical tastes on what I had growing up - the "oldies" from my parents and 80s hair metal from my brothers. That was fun. :-)

[identity profile] shannonrita.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
But see, Christian Kane is hot, and he has this whole growly voice when he sings....no, you don't know me, but I found some loverly icons of yours. *waves and runs back to class*

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
LOL *waves* If you like Leverage icons, you should subscribe to [livejournal.com profile] leveragegraphix!! Hehe. I'm pimping this for all its worth. Spread the love, man! ;-)

And yeah, the gravely voice thing is definitely a plus. ;-)

[identity profile] shannonrita.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a member. :) I'm hoping to populate my icon list from there, and maybe try to get a couple of icons with my name on them. Like, try to figure out how to do it with my friggin' computer that's too old. I've got two of your icons i think...*uses one*

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent! We do have a tag for requests if you want to request something over there. I'm sure someone would jump in...

[identity profile] shannonrita.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I requested and someone volunteered. :) I love seeing the work people can do and hope, one day, that I can get a drive big enough that I can actually USE some of the programs I have and make my own icons. lol

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear it. I had lots of fun playing when I first got Photoshop. Definitely fun.
