Pondering for my SPN friends

So, in my preparations for my 100 Supernatural icons, I was attempting to track down flat, black & white images of the boy's tattoos and a devil's trap to use as possible textures/adornments. And I found this image of the tat:

Very nice, right? However, something is bugging me about it - the pentagram and surrounding circle are not connected. It's broken up into segments. Shouldn't it be all connected to be the most effective? I mean, the surrounding "flames" are one solid piece, but the pentagram seems like it would be the most important part of the design and the most protective part of it.

So, am I weird? Is it just me? Does it seem odd to anyone else?

Ha! I've been thinking the exact same thing because I really want to use a modified version of that as my jack-o-lantern this year. Perhaps the whitespace around the pentagram serves as the unbroken circle?

But the white part is just their skin. Usually it's the drawn on design that's important. Right?

Yeah. IDK, I know I was reaching. It's just going to have to be one of those things where we just give up and remember that them having matching tattoos in incredibly HOT.

LOL Yes, that is the most important part. ;-)

*whispers* It's just a TV show and it's pretty. It's not real magic also, it's incredibly hot. ;)

I'm surprised more fangirls haven't gone out and gotten tattooed with this yet.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Shut your mouth! The Winchesters are real and I need to make sure they're protected! :-P

There's a surprising number if you google it.

Oh sorry. *shuts mouth*

Really, I'm not surprised. Kripke is probably amused.

That isn't referenced on the Wiki as any of the Devil's Traps, which gain their power from symbols as much as a pentagram. Some are hexagrams.

It's not a Devil's Trap. It's just a protection charm of some kind. But I always thought the important part of anything like that was having an unbroken line.

The inner edge of the outer circle that is formed by the flames is an unbroken line?

You are definately not weird. That's definately the same as it was in the show (I can see the broken-up-ness in in pic that's your icon) but I don't understand why they would make it that way in the first place. Huh. Weird.

Ooo I'm tempted to do the pumpkin thing too. Can I borrow the idea?

Using the picture to make a jack o' lantern? Or did I misread that cuz I'm sleep deprived?
