I think I've figured out my iconing issue...

I never have any preconceived idea of what I want an icon to look like when I start making it. Therefore, I have no ideas of what I need to do to get it to look a certain way. Which is why I end up doing the same thing all the time. Cos it looked good once, I can get it look good again. :-)

Not sure what to do about that....

I'll let you in on a secret (mine, if nobody else's): When writing a tutorial, I have NO IDEA what I was thinking when I was doing most steps so I analyze what that layer does to the image and decide that's what I wanted it to do and write it as if that was the goal. More than likely, I fiddled with layers, backtracking to change settings after I saw how subsequent layers affected the image. I've removed all of the layers that I tried and turned off because they didn't work with the other layers. There's nothing linear about my process. I am the Center of the Universe so I sort of assumed that's how everyone does things.

Every once in a while I have some sort of idea of where I want to end up but the icons that give me the most satisfaction are the ones that surprised the hell out of me, accidentally becoming good despite my cluelessness. :D

Hehe. OK, glad to hear I'm not the only clueless person! :-)
