I've been rewatching season 1 on the DVDs I got for Christmas, and, just man. This show is awesome. Especially Peter & Elizabeth. They're just so normal. They're kinda goofy, a little silly, not overly romantic, but still so much in love.

And I really have major love for Jeff Eastin and the writers not making Elizabeth one of those stereotypical "cop wives". You know the ones where like 5 years after they get married, the wife is all pissy and moany about the fact that he's never home, he's always working late blah blah blah. Dude. You knew what he was when you married him. Get over yourself. And she GETS IT. She does. He misses dinner sometimes, but she doesn't get made about it. And in Vital Signs, when she finds that business card or note with that woman's name on it in the laundry, most shows would have her get all jealous and upset. She just laughs cos Peter had to flirt and he's such a terrible flirt. And she has her own very successful career. She's her own woman. I just... I love her. Cos she's so real. She's so ME. And there's not a lot of ME on TV.

So, yeah. Yay Elizabeth! :-)

Yay Elizabeth!

That moment in Vital Signs is one I always give as a reason I love the show. I was watching it, going "no no not a boring jealous fit," and then the show made her *laugh* instead and it was awesome and adorable and I <3 her so hard. :DDD

Man I need to watch Season 2. So far behind...

Yeah, when she first pulled out the note and was all "What's this?" I started *facepalm*ing so hard thinking the same thing you were. But she laughed and all was right with the world! \o/

I agree with everything you said. El is such a wonderful character. It so nice to see in a show where a woman can run a successful career/business while have a very honest open relationship with her husband. I love it that she is very accepting of people but also protective of the people she loves. She is strong but also very sexy and feminine. Props to Jeff for knowing how to write a female character. The boys from Bridge should learn a thing or two from this.

Actually when you look at Diana and Lauren they are strong, powerful and sexy characters too all thanks to Jeff.

I need more El icons....

Yes! She's totally 3 dimensional. She's not just some flat "trophy wife" for Peter. And that it was her that basically ended up asking him out for the first time. They're just so freakin' adorable together. :-)

Fuck yes Elizabeth! I feel like every time they could've gone wrong with her, they didn't. The biggest test, absolutely, was "Vital Signs," when she LAUGHED. I love how much mutual respect there is in their relationship. It's like... there is JOY in that relationship, whereas most TV relationships are ridden with drama and angst and doubt and recriminations. It's really refreshing.

there is JOY in that relationship,

YES! That is it. It's really nice to see a wife who isn't always suspicious of her husband or thinking he's cheating on her, etc.

I don't know why I was thinking about this, but I sometimes think that's why some women today are so nutballs in their own relationships. Cos that's what they see on TV. "Oh, I have to be wary and untrusting of my husband and think that he's going to cheat or leave me at any minute. I will sneak into his email and phone to see who he's been talking to." WHY??? I mean, a huge part of relationships has to be trust. If you don't trust him why did you marry him??

It's a whole incessant bombardment. Women's insecurity is constantly stirred and mined for profit. LOL, don't get me started. But yeah, hence why Peter and Elizabeth's relationship is so refreshing, because they're actually happy with each other and they don't doubt each other. They genuinely respect each other and enjoy each other's company. And more than anything, too, I like that they TALK. They communicate with each other like civilized adults. They resolve issues BEFORE they blow up into crazy drama. It's a wonderful thing to see on TV.

It is really refreshing to see a REAL relationship on TV and not one defined by various TV dramatic/comedic tropes.
