First off, gallery of the few pictures I took can be found here.

We left Wednesday morning, leaving Martouf with my parents at our house. I cried a bit. First time we've been away for more than a night. Landed in Vegas about 11:30 with a very rough landing. It was super windy that day. My stomach did not enjoy it. After getting the luggage and rental car we head off to the hotel.

We were staying at The Tropicana. It was a very nice hotel. Not super luxurious or anything, but for the price it was quite nice. It was pretty much right at the south end of the strip so everything was north of us. Which was nice cos you didn't have to wander back and forth and up and down to get somewhere. It was all... that way. LOL Rooms were very well sized, including the bathroom. The only complaint I have is the same complaint I have for 50% of hotels - I'm 6' tall. My husband is 6'2". The shower head was approximately shoulder height. Now, they were doing renovations and it's possible they just hadn't gotten to our room, yet. But,if you're looking to go to Vegas and not break the bank, I would definitely recommend the Tropicana.

So, we finally head out for lunch about 3:00 local time. Which was about 5:00 to us and so 11 hours after we had had breakfast. I was sooooooooo hungry. We ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe just up the street. So, that was fine if not terribly exciting.

Then we just wandered around the strip for a bit. Hubby took me to see the Aria hotel as he helped design it. He's a structural engineer. So that was cool. Then we walked back through New York and headed back to our hotel. We unpacked some more and just rested for a bit. Then we decided we wanted ice cream. :-) So, we headed across the street to Excalibur as they supposedly had a Coldstone. They did. There's a walkway from there to Mandalay Bay, so we took that over. Passed the Criss Angel shop on the way. Every time I saw his name anywhere I couldn't help thinking, "What a douchebag." LOL Then we went back to the hotel and to bed cos we are old and lame.

Thursday, hubby started his conference so I was on my own for most the day. I took the bus up to The Paris and wandered around that end of the strip for a bit. Lost my mom's $10 in a slot machine there. LOL Walked over to the Bellagio hoping to see the fountains, but they only run at night. Went and had lunch at the Irish restaurant at New York, NY then headed back to the hotel to rest for a bit. Then I finally gave in and went to try my hand at some craps. And I didn't do to bad. :-) Wandered around a few of the hotels a bit more and then waited for hubby to get back so we could head to dinner. We decided to try the buffet up at The Wynn as I had heard excellent things about it from several folks. We drive up the strip and OMG. Trying to drive in Las Vegas is INSANE. If you can avoid it, don't get a rental car, you'll only give yourself a heart attack. Anyway, we get there and we're looking at the buffet menu. They have prime rib and roast turkey and pasta and tons of other stuff. What does hubby see? The 3 seafood dishes they have listed. OMG. There's going to be seafood on every menu of every restaurant we go to. Shut the fuck up and eat the damn turkey! It's a buffet! You don't have to even see the seafood if you don't want to! Ugh. Anyway, we decide to eat there and I am not disappointed. It's sooooooooooooo good. Everything. Delicious. They have cheeses and prosciutto and crackers and salads and soups and a pasta bar and SO MUCH FOOD! Surprisingly, I was rather disappointed in the desserts! :-( Though they did have gelato so that kind of saved things. :-)

Friday was pretty much more wandering around and trying some more craps. But I decided to go see Cirque du Soleil that evening as hubby had a dinner after the conference that day, so he was going to be out until 9 or 10. I went to see Ka over at the MGM Grand. No, it was not about warring Unas tribes. ;-) It was amazing though. Absolutely astounding. If you ever go to Vegas, check out a Cirque show. And the craps tables at the MGM Grand were very nice to me. :-)

Saturday, hubby didn't have anything he wanted to do at the conference so we headed out to Hoover Dam in the morning. It was pretty amazing. Look! Here I am in two states at once:

Hehe. So, back to the hotel and we decide to get tickets for Penn & Teller that evening. And I wanted to see The Venetian, so we got a coupon for dinner there, too, before the show. Oh! There are these discount ticket booths all up and down the strip for the shows that day - definitely use them. Not all the tickets are 50% off, but many are. Others are 40% and they also have dinner discounts. We ended up with a 25% off coupon. And that was 25% off the whole check, not just the entree or something like that. After dinner we headed over to The Rio for Penn and Teller. Such a good show. So funny, so entertaining. Definitely check them out if you can. They've apparently just signed a 10 year contract with The Rio, so they'll be there for awhile.

Then back to the hotel to pack and get 2 1/2 hours sleep as we had to leave at the ass crack of dawn on Sunday. :-)

So, yeah. That was it. Nothing terribly exciting, but I'm surprised at how good a time I had being all by myself. Any questions? ;-)

Yayayay glad you had a good time, and that the Tropicana worked out for you. Whoo!

Passed the Criss Angel shop on the way. Every time I saw his name anywhere I couldn't help thinking, "What a douchebag."

SAME. HERE.

I've wanted to see Penn & Teller, but wasn't sure how they'd be. I will probably check them out next time.

LOL. Oh, SPN. What you do to your fans social consciousness. Heh.

If you like Penn & Teller at all, go see their show. It is excellent. Lots of audience participation, too. Everyone in the audience was invited on stage before the show began to sign an envelope that was to be used later and inspect a large box that Teller ended up emerging from at the beginning of the show. So, if you do that, you can say you've been on a Vegas show stage. And I have! ;-)
