Glee Live: Thoughts & Concerns
May. 12th, 2011 08:45 pmLet's just take a walk through my (scary) thought process with the help of smilies:
Glee Live dates are announced. Have friends that want to go:
They announce Darren is joining the tour:
They announce The Warblers will be joining Darren on the tour:
The Warblers join Darren on some talk show appearances:
Dominic replies to someone inquiring that he was not invited to be part of the tour:
I am now very concerned that the Darren/Blaine/Dalton/Whatever portions of the evening are going to be completely suck ass. Dominic was one of the few Warblers that actually had a name and lines. To not invite him is, in my opinion, a completely douche move. I understand they couldn't invite everyone (salary, lodging & other such logistics). But Dominic? Really?
And then getting back to the Warblers' recent talk show appearances - it's been the boys lip syncing to the Beelzebubs tracks and dancing while Darren sings live. And it sounds terrible. It just does. You can tell the backing vocals are prerecorded and honestly, on some of those songs, Darren needs some help. Teenage Dream and Hey, Soul Sister are really high and singing to a prerecorded track means they can't adjust if he's having an off day or anything. He's just going to be stuck and he's going to wreck his voice and I'm very worried.
But, see, the thing is, those boys can SING. Like, for real. They're all absolutely amazing. And I know that trying to get an 8 part harmony a capella arrangement figured out isn't exactly easy. But you know what? If you gave them the time and the tools they needed? They could do it. They would do it. Because they are so excited and thrilled and just happy to be even the smallest part of the Glee Machine. Let them go work with the 'Bubs for a month or something before the tour starts. They would GET IT. I know they would. And that's I think one of the biggest disappointments about this whole thing to me.
I don't know... I just have a really bad feeling it's going to suck and disappoint A LOT of people.

Date: 2011-05-13 01:01 pm (UTC)I'm really interested to see who will go. I know some of them have other things planned and couldn't/didn't want to (I know Telly is doing some broadway workshop thing), but I really what went down with Dom, he obviously wanted to go but wasn't invited, which makes me wonder why.

Date: 2011-05-13 01:24 pm (UTC)I am curious as to why Dom wasn't invited - I know Brock was because he had to say no due to "On the Spot". I know they had been holding off on inviting any of them due to the cost and the discussion of having just backup dancers there. Obviously they realized the fans wanted the Warblers. But at the same time I'm like, why bring these singers along just so they can lip synch? And if you let them lip synch, then dammit, let Darren do it occasionally because the guy is getting no rest of his voice and he just isn't up to dancing/singing at the same time yet.
Gah. There's enough Darren hate out there in the Glee fandom. I am terrified as to what this is going to do.

Date: 2011-05-13 01:42 pm (UTC)I'm worried about this, too. I kinda wish they didn't do the shows in character cos then Darren could do what he does with those songs when he's by himself and it would be amazing and awesome. Ugh. I just have a very bad feeling this is going to end up a huge mess.

Date: 2011-05-13 01:45 pm (UTC)I am SO WORRIED that this is going to blow up in Darren's face :/ I am REALLY HOPING they'll all be lip syncing, because with stadiums that big, you almost have to to sound good. sigh. hopefully after the today disasters, they've convinced him.

Date: 2011-05-13 01:57 pm (UTC)See, this almost makes me wish they'd invited the 'Bubs to come so we could get the live singing. No, they're not the Warblers we know and see, but they ARE The Warblers.
I don't know.....

Date: 2011-05-13 01:37 pm (UTC)But, yeah, the whole thing with Dom is rubbing me the wrong way. Honestly, I do understand they can't bring everyone. I'm sure most of the logistics have already been worked out and adding 15 extra bodies this late in the game is probably a bit of a hassle.
But I also have no solution to this dilemma... :-(

Date: 2011-05-13 01:51 pm (UTC)idk idk. a friend and I were supposed to be getting tickets to the last show in NY since we're going to the one two days before in NJ, but I kind of don't want to spend the money now. I'd much rather see Darren doing his own thing.

Date: 2011-05-13 01:53 pm (UTC)Word. But, well, I guess we won't really know anything until the tour actually kicks off and we start getting reports. Which is, well, next week, I think....
