Torchwood: Miracle Day
I don't know why I watched this. I'm so mad at Torchwood I deleted all my TW icons. But we have Starz free for a month, so whatever...
First, I'm going to start with a quote from the wonderful
or_mabinogi in the comments to his review: "Actually, it is pretty interesting. Only if you can completely disconnect yourself from what the show used to be."
This is exactly how I feel.
I absolutely HATED Children of Earth. That wasn't Torchwood. RTD pretty much admitted it wasn't Torchwood. So, why I tuned into this, I'll never know. I do know that I won't be tuning in again. It was the absolute piece of shit I was expecting it to be. I'm sorry, but if you want viewers, you don't make one of your main characters A CONVICTED PEDOPHILE AND MURDERER. That's just... Ugh. Sickens me. I'm sorry, but no.
And Gwen. I was never really a fan of Gwen from the beginning, but then what she did to Rhys after the Owen thing is just unforgivable. I can't do it. She's a fucking bitch who doesn't deserve the wonderful life she has.
So, anyway. If this was your first time watching Torchwood, enjoy. As for me, I won't be.

I remember being disgusting by the character call sheet while this was still being cast. Pullman is a decent actor but it's difficult to allow that sort of character to continue. Maybe RTD thinks he makes the perfect villain due to his vileness. I say it just makes me angry the longer he continues to live. Letting him go for legal reasons was wrong. I don't doubt the capability of the US government to make someone just disappear. Even if they can't be killed.
I enjoyed CoE for the first 3.5 days. The ending was what killed it for me. There was already some questionable stuff from seasons prior (not to mention the senseless character assassinations and character deaths) but Ianto dying in such an unimportant manner and Jack killing his own grandson was a guaranteed way to turn me off.
But then, I compartmentalized. If I pretend nothing that I saw before was something that I actually saw, then maybe I can at least watch what happens next. The hard part is going to be Mekhi Phifer's character. He's an asshole, and I don't like him one bit. Far less than I even gave Owen a chance.
I know what you're saying about Gwen, and I hated her for the first season or two. But I thought she came into her own in the last season and was probably the best part of CoE. My love for Rhys makes me worried for him. He's in danger, I tell you. If Jack can confess his sins about his grandson, Gwen could potentially be the heart of reason for him. But I doubt RTD's capability to bridge that gap. So, I compartmentalize.

The only way I might be able to get back on board the Gwen train is if she actually really confesses what she did and then Rhys leaves her. That would get him out of danger (theoretically), and Gwen would get what she deserves. But, that's never gonna happen.
The kind of sad thing is, what's happening with Jack is actually really interesting. But I don't care enough to have to sit through the rest of the crap to find out what's going on, only to have them not really resolve it and probably forget about it anyway. Grr....
