So, I've started watching Vampire Diaries at the request of a friend. And, dammit, it's actually really good. Even though it's on the CW there's really not a lot of that teen angst woe is me crap. There is some, but it's manageable.

And I like that they don't follow the typical girl-meets-vamp-and-wants-to-be-turned and other various stereotypes shit. Just when you think one is going to pop up, nope! Smacked down by someone. AND! The girls dress like actual high school kids in jeans and t-shirts and Converse and not designer dresses and mini skirts all the time. It's really refreshing.

I think Damon is my favorite. Not just cos Ian is smoking hot, though he is, but his character really is so much more interesting that Stefan. He starts off as the mustache twirling evil guy, but he's motivated by love and his feelings for Elena and he does kind of try and do good. Well, as good as he can given his situation. And for some reason, it just really amuses me whenever he kills someone and he'll just look to the person next to him and be like, "Take care of that." And they do! He just never cleans up his own mess.

And Nina Dobrev does an amazing job of switching up the Elena and Katherine stuff when they're both in an episode. They really are so very different. Kudos to her.

I'm a few episodes into season 2. I hope I can finish this week and then get caught up on season 3. My friend who got me hooked on the show told me this past week was really interesting with getting into the vampire origins.

Yay new show! :-)

Yeah, the first few episodes were a little high on the cheese factor (fog? really?), but it toned down greatly and I'm really liking what they're doing with the mythology and stuff. A lot of times with shows like this, you get all these characters coming in and everyone has their own agenda, but not here. They're all essentially working for the same purpose, which helps keep the show interesting but doesn't make it too convoluted.
