switch842: (Glee: Blaine INU)

Can someone explain Cough Syrup to me? Like, seriously. I must be missing something. Like, yes, Darren sounds great on it, but I'm not getting the "lasdkjhfsdlkjhngsdlkjg" reaction everyone else is. Maybe it's cos I've never heard the song before today, I don't know.

So, help?

It really depends on which side of the crazed Klainers you want to take the interpretation of the song from. The song itself is about navigating your way through life, taking chances and how you can either run away from it or take a temporary fix like "cough syrup". Considering the song comes at the beginning of the ep, and there's supposed to be a big event at the beginning, it likely means Blaine/Kurt and the reason Blaine is singing the song (which could either have to do with Kurt going off to NYADA or Kurt coming in to Blaine life) will be set into a montage with something to do with Karofsky. Possibly the suicide angle.

So fandom is torn: There's the set pissed off because how dare Karofsky intrude on something Blaine is singing, and there's the set pissed off because Blaine isn't singing a love song to Kurt.

Ah, okay. I think I get it. Once again, all we have is the song to go with and no context and people are freaking out for no reason. Just another Friday in Glee fandom... ;-)

Pretty much. Though it feels worse than usual to me. When you add in the Karofsky rumblings from this ep, and the lack of Klaine last ep, fandom just freaks the fuck out.

Hence I ran back to LJ. It's far more calm here.

Glee is probably the craziest fandom I've ever been involved in. It's nuts.

... My immediate thought was, "... It stops you from coughing? It's a good thing?" And then I realize you were talking about something else entirely.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] angstbunny there. I was all ready to run my spiel on expectorants vs suppressants, acetaminophen vs codeine, cold & cough vs flu or bronchitis... until it started sounding like you might be talking about something else. I had no idea there was a song about cough syrup. Although, my mom always said there's a song for everything.

Hehe.

Yeah, I have no idea who the original artist is so, sadly, I can't point you to youtube or anything.

I'm listening to the song right now, he sounds very good on it.

I have hopes it's about Kurt and NYADA but [livejournal.com profile] aelora makes a good point about Karofsky and about the big happening at the beginning of the episode.

I'm not sure how I feel about it personally. But I doubt Kurt hasn't told Blaine about his conversation at Breadstix. And it could give a reason as to why we meet his brother after the hiatus. He goes to him for advice or something.

Do I need to watch that behind the scenes video I've been avoiding like the spoilerphobe I am? Cos everyone is talking about the beginning of the episode and I have no idea what that's about....

I haven't watched it, I'm trying to avoid it. I've seen some gifs of Chris on tumblr but I left quickly. I didn't know they mentioned the beginning of the ep though, so now I'm tempted.

I don't know if they mention the beginning of the ep, either. But you're the second person to mention something big happening at the beginning of the episode and I was assuming that's where the info was coming from.

Here's what the artist has to say...

According to an article in Orange Pop, from 02-19-2009, Sameer stated, “As to what “Cough Syrup” is all about, Gadhia says “It’s about jumping into a world where things aren’t what they seem. Kind of like what happens in your dreams after you take cough syrup.”

That sure sounds like Blaine’s recent experience with the Warblers…he thought they were all his friends yet they let Sebastian influence them and they all walked away….food for thought….

That is interesting and does certainly make sense with Blaine's current situation. That could be a very interesting musical number if it is indeed done montage style....
