I made a pork roast in the crock pot yesterday. First I seared it in the pan, like I do. Well, this morning, I looked at it and it still looked absolutely filthy. Hubby had cleaned it, so not sure why. I decided to try the thing where you put water in it and then boil the water to get all the gunk off. Well, I, uh, kinda forgot about it and it boiled dry. *facepalm*
I'm attempting to re-season it in the hopes that I just "cooked" all the seasoning off it. *fingers crossed*

Date: 2009-12-22 09:02 pm (UTC)Also, warm olive oil is a better way to clean things than boiling water when it comes to cast iron. Mom had a couple boiling water accidents and my aunt aunt (on dad's side) let her know the warm olive oil trick.
Warm the olive oil in the microwave till it is hot to the touch but not a blistering hot, then let it sit in the goop on the pan on the lowest setting on the burners (obviously an electric range not gas), and then use a non-metal utensil to scrape things off. Repeat as needed, then reseason after washing.
