Random Con Ramblings & LEVERAGE!

The Chicago Con is in a couple weeks and to be honest, this whole con is looking kind of meh. First, Jason had to cancel. I got to see him a couple years ago, so I'm not too disappointed, though I was looking forward to his concert Friday night. Then, someone on GW mentioned that the tentative schedule had been posted, so I went to take a look to see what was going on. The dessert party - Dan Shea. That's it. Um, not so much. I mean, he's funny and all, but really? No Shanks? No Flanigan? No Hewlett? Let down.

I think this just really confirms that this is going to be my last full out convention. I'll probably still do a day pass if any friends come into town (aka [livejournal.com profile] brihana25 or [livejournal.com profile] whisper99). :-D But other than that, pretty sure this is it for me. Is it weird that I want to tell Michael good bye? Like at the photo ops. I mean, we've kind of bonded. He for sure recognizes me now (in a good way, I think....). So, yeah... Anyway...

But I'm holding out a very slim hope that perhaps Creation will get Colin to replace Jason. Probably not, but a girl can dream...

This was another one that gets a check in the YES column. :-) I loved the development we got with Parker this week. She's definitely growing and coming into her own.

I think this episode also determines for me that Eliot is definitely an older brother. How he was with Corey was totally giving me that vibe. Though my stupid slash goggles totally skewed the last scene. When Corey was all "So, you're leaving?" and getting all teary, my brain couldn't help filling in "But I love you!" Ugh... LOL

Next week's ep looks reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally interesting. It's finally The Before They Were Leverage Job. I can't wait to see everyone!!!

I am looking forward to tonight's Leverage episode. Can't wait.

As for the con I cannot help to think that maybe Creation is also spreading themselves too thin as they are also holding the Vancouver SPN con for those very same dates.

If I was going to the US/Canada for the con and have to choose between the two I would go to the SPN con as J2 and Misha is going to be there.

So yeah I totally get how you are feeling at the moment.

Yeah, I saw SPN was the same weekend and I was like, really? I mean, Chicago SG is pretty huge. But, I suppose SG is winding down. It's kind of sad, but that seems to be the way it's going. :-(

This is my last con I need to start saving money for other things and spending way I do. Luckily on Sunday some of us are going to the field museum seeing that SGU does not intrest me at all. Even though looking forward to seeing everyone; always fun catching up and is the little guy makeing an appearance??

That's pretty much why this is my last con, too. Babies are expensive. LOL

Yes, Gabe will be showing up on Saturday. Possibly Thursday afternoon before hubby picks him up after work. I'm a little wary of having him there the whole weekend, so just a day. But, he'll be there. :-D

Creation are only interested in the fandom that makes them the most money at that particular time.....Adam didn't even hang around on the Sunday at Vancouver until the end, afaik...he was packing up his stuff at the back whilst the last panel was going on....Gary didn't even bother to appear....and some of their newer volunteers' "customer services skills" left a lot to be desired...

They will continue for as long as they can get people paying out for Gold and Preferred tickets and as long as the stars agree to do them....I think Michael will always be available for any CC's personally as I expect they still pay him pretty well.....(jmho of course).....

As soon as SPN and other fandoms/stars lose their golden touch and something new comes up then they'll turn their full attention to that as well I'm sure.....it's a business and doesn't surprise me at all....

Personally their refusal to stop these "guest encounters" where they get a small amount of dedicated fans paying much more money for an hour with their star (JF still got over $1,000 bid for his at Chicago didn't he?) and not go back to the communal "paying brunches" has always annoyed me......sod the main fans (who've already paid out enormous chunks of cash to go to these things and get autos, photo ops), lets see how much we can play on the need of some to feel "special" and grab more money......

If the stars have requested this then my apologies will go to Creation but I'm sure that the VIP thing was purely a way to grab more cash and play on the fans' desire to get close to their "favoured one"......

I go to see my friends not "scmooze with the stars" ...Not that I'm saying everyone does this, of course not.....however I thought it was much fairer and more fun when we all had the chance of meeting up to 4/5 stars at a reasonably priced "brunch" and/or our dessert party included in the ticket...makes it not worth buying a Gold to be honest if you're only going to meet one or two poor hard working stars, doing their best to cover a few dozen tables in an hour or so....

Plus I hope they've sorted out their lighting issues........I'd hate anyone to have to sit in that darkened pile of shit we had to in Vancouver....

Deeds xx

Oh, I'm sure this was all a Creation thing, too. I doubt this was the idea of any of the actors. And, yeah, JF went for over $1000. Each. So, that's like $10K they made off him. I mean, if this was maybe a charity thing and all the funds from the winning bids went there, I might be more understanding. But as far as I'm aware, it just all goes into Creation's pockets.

After my first con, it really did end up being about getting to hang out with my friends and all the actor stuff was incidental, if you will. I will be grateful to Creation for introducing me to some really great friends (you, Erin, etc), but I think it's getting to be time to move on. :-(

Bummer! Chicago always seemed like it got the (non-Vancouver) con that got the best actors and was the one I wished I could go to. Sorry that it's dying. I went to one con in NJ where all the main folks canceled and they flew in Flanigan at the very last minute.

The supporting actors typically end up being my faves as they can chat with fans without being mobbed or molested. I have extremely fond memories of Peter Williams sitting on a sofa in the reception area, talking with us fans for hours. Michael or Amanda could never really do that. I hope you get some surprise good experiences like that.

It really did seem like Chicago was the place to be. I mean, it is Chicago. We do kick ass. ;-)

I totally agree with you on the supporting actors thing. And Peter. Oh, Peter. I have such fond memories of being cuddled by Peter on the couch in the lobby of the Chicago Con. LOL It was one of those moments where after it's over you look back and are like "What the hell just happened? How did I end up there?" Kinda like being whipped with a belt on stage in front of everyone by Tony Amendola. WTF? But, yeah. I do have very fond memories of all my times there. It's just sad that the end of an era seems to have come. :-( And that I'll probably never get to meet Colin, now. He's like my absolute favorite and did something for me a couple years ago at a GateCon where my friends were and I just...really need to thank him for being awesome and amazing and going so above and beyond anything. But, yeah, that's not likely to happen now.

Bummer about Jason not coming, but if teh Hewlett is still there I will be a happy fangirl.

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
As of the posting of this comment, Hewlett is still scheduled to be there. I make no further claims on the subject. ;-)

The episode was another good one, I loved how Hardison was trying to be all amusing with Elliot but Elliot was all, "Whatever, just give me the damn tech."

HEE! :D

[identity profile] switch842.livejournal.com 2010-08-17 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. Eliot has no need for convoluted explanations. Give him the stuff, tell him what buttons to push and that's all he needs. LOL

[identity profile] sgteam14283.livejournal.com 2010-08-17 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed!

and the fight sequence with the pick-axe was made of win! ^-^
