DARREN IS GONNA BE ON THE APOCALYPTOUR
Well, some dates, apparently.
Please come to Chicago. Please come to Chicago. Please come to Chicago. Please come to Chicago.
It was a couple of weeks ago that a report claimed Darren Criss was in talks to replace Daniel Radcliffe in the Broadway revival of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
However, neither the Glee star nor anyone involved with the show has confirmed the news.
So is it happening?
It sure is. I just got word that the official announcement will come tomorrow.
It was only a week ago that Criss remained coy on the subject. "I don't know!" he told TVGuide.com. "People keep asking me about it, and it's kind of cool that that's out there in the world, but I cannot confirm anything at all."
How to Succeed will mark Criss' Broadway debut. His three-week run will kick off on Jan. 3, according to Deadline.
Sadly, Criss won't be eligible for a Tony Award for his work because he did not originate the role in this version of the show. Not to mention that the Tonys already snubbed Radcliffe by not even nominating him. For those keep track of more successful How to Succeed stars, Matthew Broderick won for his performance in 1995 as did Robert Morse in 1962.
Northalsted Market Days gets Gleek-ified this year with the announcement that Darren Criss (gay teen “Blaine Anderson” on the T.V. phenom “Glee”) will perform at the Boystown event, reportedly the largest two-day street fair in the Midwest.
Criss has strong Chicago ties: StarKid—the theater troupe co-founded by the 24-year-old along with fellow classmates from the University of Michigan—relocated to Chicago last summer. StarKid’s big claim to fame—a You Tube video titled “A Very Potter Musical” (for which Criss played the title role)—was named one of Entertainment Weekly’s top 10 viral videos for 2009.
Organizers say Criss, who joined the musical comedy-drama last fall, will take the stage Aug. 13, at 4:30 p.m., in between acts Maxine Nightingale and Prince Poppycock.
